Sheila Quinlan distinguished herself as one of the top performers on the St. Cloud State University swimming an diving team from 1980-83 and 1984-85. At SCSU, Quinlan was a team captain and a most valuable award recipient in 1981 and 1982. She set five team records at SCSU from 1980-85 and advanced to the NCAA Division II nationals in 1981 and 1983. Quinlan began her swimming career in the AAU ranks at age eight with the St. Paul Swim Club. She later swam on the St. Paul-Johnson High School boys swim team in 1976-77. From 1977-79, Quinlan swam on her high school's girls swim team and completed in the MSHSL state meet during those same seasons. In 1977 and 1978, Quinlan helped her prep team win the St. Paul city swimming championships. She received the Washington Spirit Award as the Outstanding Female Swimmer in the St. Paul Conference in 1977. In AAU competition, Quinlan was a Minnesota state champion in the girls age 15-18 200-meter butterfly in 1977 and 1978. A 1985 graduate of SCSU, Quinlan also competed in intramural volleyball, broomball, floor hockey and softball during her college days. From 1981-90 Quinlan worked with the St. Paul Parks and Recreation department, and worked for three and a half years as an adaptive physical education teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District and Los Angeles area YMCAs from 1992-94. In 1996, she graduated from the Minnesota School of Massage and has been a certified registered massage therapist for the past eight years. Sheila has been a volunteer Red Cross CPR/First Instructors for 12 years and has served as a massage volunteer for University of Minnesota athletic events and the Twin Cities Marathon. She currently works for Olsen, Thielen and Company LTD. Her family includes eight brothers and sisters.
