#12 Huskies Bring Home a 5-1 Win from Duluth

Duluth, Minn. - The #12 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (7-5-0, 5-3-0 WCHA) ended its weekend in Duluth with a big 5-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth (3-7-2, 1-5-2 WCHA) on Saturday, Nov. 24 at the AMSOIL Arena.
The game was a special teams showcase as the Huskies charted three power play goals and one shorthanded goal in the contest, while Minnesota Duluth's lone goal was on the power play.
SCSU jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first period with a power play marker by senior forward Ben Hanowski at 11:25, which included assists from sophomore Andrew Prochno and senior Drew LeBlanc. The assist was LeBlanc's 10th of the season and his 15th point of the year.
Junior forward Nic Dowd posted the game winner at 15:43 of the first period with an even strength goal. Hanowski added the lone assist on the play for SCSU.
In the second period, SCSU's special teams hit again with a power play goal at 4:39 by freshman Kalle Kossila. Dowd and Jarrod Rabey coined assists on the play for the Huskies. The goal was Kossila's second of the weekend and his sixth goal as a Husky in 2012-13.
Dowd added his second goal of the evening at 6:27 of the second period with a power play marker that featured assists by Taylor Johnson and Hanowski. Both Dowd (2g/1a) and Hanowski (1g/2a) scored three point apiece on the evening. Dowd moved into the team's scoring lead at UMD with eight goals and 17 points. Hanowski's season totals moved to 4g/4a in seven games this season.
UMD broke the shutout at 9:49 of the second period with a power play goal by Mike Seidel that made the tally 4-1. SCSU ended the Bulldog comeback in the third period with a shorthanded goal by Cory Thorson at 11:18. Joey Holka and Nick Jensen each turned in assists on the play. This was Thorson's first SHG as a Husky.
SCSU netminder Ryan Faragher was impressive between the pipes once again with 32 saves to offset UMD outshooting the Huskies 33-22 in the game. Aaron Crandall was the goalie of record for UMD with 17 saves in the game.
On the power play, SCSU was 3-of-5 and UMD was 1-of-4 on the advantage.
