#14 Huskies Rally to Remain Undefeated in 68-60 Win Over Bemidji State

St. Cloud, Minn. – The 14th-ranked St. Cloud State University men's basketball team used a second half rally to remain undefeated in a 68-60 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over Bemidji State University Friday night at Halenbeck Hall.
St. Cloud State improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC. The Huskies host Minnesota, Crookston Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Bemidji State fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC and will play at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
A three-point basket by sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) gave the Huskies their first lead of the game, 58-56 at the 5:52 mark of the second half.
The Beavers opened the game with an 8-0 run and posted their largest lead of the game, 23-14 at the 8:57 mark of the first half. Bemidji State went on to a 38-30 half time lead.
The Huskies opened the second half on a 6-0 run that included back-to-back baskets from senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael). Once again Bemidji State increased the lead to nine points, 49-40 with 14:15 to play.
A Niehaus steal led to a layup by junior guard Damarius Cruz (Robbinsdale) that tied the game at 51-51 with 9:50 left. After BSU took a 56-51 lead the Huskies fought back with a basket by first year guard Jordan Poydras (DePere, Wis.) and a pair of free throws from senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) followed by the Niehaus three that gave SCSU the lead for good.
Jensen led all players with a season high 21 points. Sophomore guard Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) had 13 points, Rothstein finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Poydras finished with ten points and six rebounds.
The Huskies shot 44.4 percent from the field while BSU had a 39 percent field goal shooting night. The Beavers out rebounded SCSU 43-30 but committed 21 turnovers.
Bemidji State was led in scoring by Mason Walters who collected a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Dermaine Crockrell added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Beavers.
