Huskies Win Sixth Straight, 79-55 Over Minnesota, Crookston

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) poured in a career high 30 points to lead the 14th-ranked Huskies to a 79-55 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over the University of Minnesota, Crookston Saturday evening at Halenbeck Hall.
St. Cloud State improved to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC.
Rothstein made 12 of 15 field goal attempts and three of five three-point attempts to eclipse his previous career high of 23 points. He also had five rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Rothstein has scored in double figures in every game this season and leads the Huskies in scoring with 20.5 points a game. His field goal shooting average is 64.4 percent.
He is the first Husky to score 30 points in a game since guard Taylor Witt scored 39 points at Augustana College on March 2, 2011. Andrew Bernstetter was the last Husky to score 30 at Halenbeck Hall, as he scored 35 against Upper Iowa on Jan. 8, 2011.
Three Huskies scored 11 points in the game. Junior transfer Chris Larson (Hudson, Iowa) had a career high 11 points and a career high six rebounds. Junior guards Damarius Cruz (Robbinsdale) and Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) also dropped in 11 points. Levandoski dished out a career high five assists.
The Huskies shot a sensational 60 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from three points range in the game.
Ashton Harrell led Minnesota, Crookston in scoring with 16 points. Brandon Burns added 12 points and a team high six rebounds. The Golden Eagles shot 45 percent from the field and out rebounded the Huskies 24-23.
Minnesota, Crookston took a 6-2 lead early in the game until a three by the Huskies Cruz put the home team ahead 9-6. The Huskies never trailed after that and led 44-29 at the half.
St. Cloud State will go on the road in the NSIC next weekend, playing at Northern State on Friday and MSU Moorhead Saturday.
