#15/16 SCSU Men's Hockey on the Road at #5 North Dakota

The #15/16 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (14-10-0, 11-5-0 WCHA) will travel to #5 University of North Dakota (13-7-4, 8-4-4 WCHA) on Jan. 25-26. The game on Jan. 25 will start at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Jan. 26 begins at 7:07 p.m. This marks the Huskies' first road games since at trip to Alaska Anchorage on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

LAST TIME ON ICE: St. Cloud State moved into a tie for first place in the WCHA thanks to a pair of wins at home against Denver on Jan. 18-19. To open the weekend, the Huskies rolled to a 5-2 victory over DU at the NHEC. Nick Jensen scored two goals, including the game winner in the third period for the Huskies. Cory Thorson, Nic Dowd and Nick Oliver also posted markers in the win for SCSU. Ryan Faragher added 23 saves in the game as SCSU outshot DU 38-25...to complete the set, SCSU added a 5-1 win over the Pioneers on Jan. 19. David Morley fired the Huskies with the first two goals of the game, while Dowd, LeBlanc and Hanowski also scored in the win. On the night, LeBlanc finished with 1g/2a and Hanowski had 1g/2a. Faragher charted 26 saves and SCSU again outshot the Pioneers 36-27 in the contest. Over the weekend, SCSU was 3-of-10 on the power play.
MAKING A STATEMENT: St. Cloud State post-season honors candidate Drew LeBlanc continues his amazing comeback story in 2012-13. An injury redshirt in 2011-12, LeBlanc added to his story with four more points in the sweep over Denver. He currently owns a 13-game point streak and leads the nation with 27 assists in 2012-13. LeBlanc also ranks second in the nation with 34 points for the Huskies. On Jan. 19, LeBlanc tallied one goal and two assists in the 5-1 win over DU....LeBlanc's 27 assists this season is already a career season-high for the forward from Hermantown, Minn. His previous season-high was 26 helpers posted in 2010-11. LeBlanc is also on track to make a run at the Huskies' single season record of 38 assists set by Mark Hartigan (2001-02) and Brandon Sampair (2000-01). In his career, LeBlanc has 36 goals and 95 assists with 131 points at SCSU. He now ranks 10th in the team point record and is moving closer to Husky legender Tyler Arnason (1998-01) and Nate DiCasmirro (1998-02), who rank eighth in the team charts with 136 points.
CENTURY CLUB: On the topic of career stats, senior forward Ben Hanowski became the 24th Husky (all games played at the Division I level) to join SCSU's 100-point club. Hanowski scored his 100th career point with his third period goal against Denver on Jan. 19. Hanowski capped the game with two assists and one goal and now has eight goals and 10 assists this winter. In his career, Hanowski has 53 goals and 47 assists. He currently ranks 12th in the team record for career goals along with Brett Lievers (1990-95).
CAREER MILESTONE: SCSU coach Bob Motzko gained his 150th career victory with the Huskies on Jan. 18. The 5-2 victory over the Pioneers was also the 100th WCHA victory for Motzko. In eight seasons at SCSU, Motzko is 151-119-34 overall and 101-84-27 in WCHA play.
HE CAN SCORE TOO: SCSU junior defender Nick Jensen keyed the Huskies' 5-2 win over Denver with a pair of goals. The goals snapped a six game goal scoring drought for Jensen. His season totals now stand at three goals and 16 assists for the Huskies. He ranks fourth among DI blueliners with 19 points and second among DI defensemen with 16 points. In his career, Jensen has 14 goals and 60 assists for a total of 74 career points. He ranks sixth in the team record for points by a defenseman. He is rapidly moving up on Husky legend Bret Hedican, who notched 77 points during his SCSU career from 1988-91.
WCHA HONOR ROLL: SCSU's Ryan Faragher was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for his work in the nets against nationally ranked DU. He posted 49 saves in the two games and also had an assist on Jan. 18, which was his third career point. The last time a Husky goalie scored a point was Mike Lee, who had a helper against Nebraska Omaha on March, 10, 2012. Faragher's last assist was a point against Minnesota on Jan. 28, 2012. Faragher owns a 2.29 GAA and a .911 save rate this winter for the Huskies with 489 saves to his credit.

Dowd also has 15 assists this season to rank second on the team behind LeBlanc with 26 points... The Huskies handed Denver its first series sweep in WCHA play since St. Cloud State won two against the Pioneers on Nov. 14-15, 2008.
