OVERLAND PARK, KS (April 11, 2013) – St. Cloud State University senior forward and team captain Ben Hanowski has been named to the 2012-13 Senior Class Award All-America Second Team for NCAA® Division I men's ice hockey.
The recognition, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I men's ice hockey coaches, national ice hockey media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I men's ice hockey. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, community, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Hanowski was the lone represenative from the WCHA selected for this honor and Cheyne Rocha of Army was named as the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award winner for this season.
Hanowski joins an elite group of former SCSU players who have earned Senior CLASS Award All-America status including Nate Raduns, Marty Mjelleli and Garrett Raboin.
Hanowski and his teammates are currently participating in the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four on April 11 and 13 at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
