Volleyball Trumps Bemidji State 3-1 in Home Opener

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University volleyball team hosted Bemidji State University in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) home opener this evening in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies jumped out to a quick 12-0 start in set one and never looked back. St. Cloud State defeated the Beavers three sets to one, with final scores coming in at 25-12, 25-23, 22-25, and 25-19.Â
The Huskies improve to 7-2 overall, 1-0 in the NSIC. This is St. Cloud State's greatest start to a season since 1998.Â
The Huskies displayed offensive dominance in tonight's performance. Kaitlin Doughty (Tomahawk, Wis.), Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) and Ellie Dietzen all finished with double-digit kill totals. Domeier led the pack as she tallied 13 total kills and added 14 digs. Dietzen and Doughty each finished with 12 kills. Dietzen had a team-high four blocks along with Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley).Â
Several other Huskies contributed in tonight's victory. Ohlemann finished with 46 assists. Brianne Stamer (Hutchinson) had a team-high 18 digs.Â
Rachel Burke (Madison, Wis.) was a spark plug in set four as she came in and recorded three kills in just seven attempts.Â
Jessica Yost and Rachel Craig led all players for the Beavers. They each recorded 13 kills in the match.Â
St. Cloud State will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they travel to Crookston, Minn. to take on the Golden Eagles. Crookston fell to Minnesota Duluth in three sets this evening. They enter Saturday's match-up against the Huskies with a 5-4 overall record, 0-1 in the NSIC.
The St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota Crookston contest is set to start at 4 p.m. in Crookston, Minn. Live game coverage will be available as well as live stats.Â
