Crookston, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University volleyball team is on a roll. The Huskies defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston this afternoon in a grueling five set battle. St. Cloud State finally pulled off the win with set scores of 26-24, 21-25, 23-25, 26-24, and 15-9.
The Huskies improve to 8-2 overall, 2-0 in the NSIC. This is SCSU volleyball's best start to a season since 1998. With the win, the Huskies now hold a four game win-streak.
Head Coach Michelle Blaeser recapped the match stating, "Crookston did a great job of blocking us, and we initially got rattled. Kellan and Ellie were both solid in the middle and helped us to gain momentum. We stuck together and focused on being disciplined. We each contributed our individual strengths and pulled off a complete team-effort win."
Four Huskies finished with double-digit kill totals. Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led the pack with 16 total kills and a .333 attack percentage. Kellan Flynn (Tomahawk, Wis.) added 13 kills and hit an impressive .478%.
Outside hitters Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) and Kaitlin Doughty (Tomahawk, Wis.) added further offensive success. Doughty collected 14 kills, while Domeier tallied 10 kills and 17 digs. This marks Domeier's fourth straight double-double match of the season and fifth overall.
Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley) collected a season-high 49 assists. Brianne Stamer (Hutchinson) added a season-high 29 digs.
St. Cloud State will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 24 as they travel to Duluth, Minn. to take on the #1 ranked UMD Bulldogs for a 7 p.m. NSIC match-up. UMD currently holds an 11-0 overall record, 2-0 in the NSIC. Look for further updates regarding game coverage later this week.
