Huskies Split in Season Opener Games at Drury University

Springfield, Missouri – The St. Cloud State University volleyball team opened up their season at the LaQuinta Kickoff Classic today as they took on Drury University and Arkansas Tech.
The Huskies fell to Drury University in their first match-up of the 2013 season. They battled the Panthers to the end, taking the match to five sets before falling 25-21, 10-25, 18-25, 25-19 and 16-18. The Huskies fought back, winning their second match three sets to one over Arkansas Tech with set scores 25-19, 17-25, 25-15, and 25-20.

SCSU vs. Drury University Recap:
Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led the Huskies with 11 kills and a .348 attack average. Kellan Flynn (Tomahawk, Wis.) and Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) each posted ten kills. Flynn also collected five blocks and two service aces.
Freshman setter Marissa Kline (Luxemburg, Wis.) tallied 36 assists, while defensive player Brianne Stamer (Hutchinson) led the Huskies with 18 digs.
SCSU vs. Arkansas Tech Recap:
Three St. Cloud State players finished with double-digit kills against Arkansas Tech. Dani Domeier led all players with 14 kills, Kaitlin Doughty (Tomahawk, Wis.) tallied 12 kills, and Kellan Flynn finished with 10 kills while holding a .625 attack percentage.
As a team the Huskies hit .324, well above Arkansas Tech's .163.
Head Coach Michelle Blaeser recapped their opening day by stating, "The team worked extremely well together and had excellent chemistry on the court. After the first match we talked about minimizing errors but staying aggressive. We came out in the second match and did exactly that. Kaitlin stepped up and made a huge impact today. I'm reallly proud of our team's effort overall."
