Husky Volleyball Defeats Union and Lindenwood

Springfield, Missouri – The St. Cloud State University volleyball team continued competition at the LaQuinta Kickoff Classic today as they took on Union University and Lindenwood University.
The Huskies were victorious in both matches. St. Cloud State took down Union in three straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-22. They took the court again at 3 p.m., this time defeating Lindenwood in four sets with final scores coming in at 25-17, 17-25, 25-20, and 25-22.
SCSU vs. Union University Recap:
Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led all players with 12 kills in the match. Dietzen hit an impressive .524 attack percentage. Kellan Flynn (Tomahawk, Wis.) finished close behind with 11 kills. Flynn has hit double-digit kill totals in all four matches this season.
Freshman setter Marissa Kline (Luxemburg, Wis.) tallied 22 assists and was joined by veteran setter Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley) who added ten. Allison Butler (Burnsville) led the Huskies with 15 digs.
SCSU vs. Lindenwood University Recap:
Three St. Cloud State players finished with double-digit kills in their second match of the day. Ellie Dietzen led all players with 19 kills, while hitting an impressive .621 percent. Kellan Flynn added 12 kills and Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) finished with 12 kills and 14 digs.
As a team the Huskies hit .288. Brianne Stamer (Hutchinson) led with 16 digs.
Head Coach Michelle Blaeser recapped the Huskies second day of play stating, "Overall it was a great weekend. Both setters, Marissa and Erin, did a great job creating one on one opportunities for our hitters. We focused on playing "Husky Ball" which emphasizes energy, effort, and excitement. We're excited to take what we accomplished this weekend and carry it forward to our tournament next weekend."
After tournament play today, St. Cloud State's 2013 season record moves to 3-1 overall, and 0-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Huskies return to action on Sept. 13 as they head to Sioux Falls, S.D. to compete in the NSIC Challenge Tournament.
