#5 St. Cloud State Tallies 5-3 Win at Nebraska Omaha

Omaha, Neb. - The #5 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey team charted its first victory at Nebraska Omaha on Friday, Jan. 31 with a 5-3 decision over the Mavericks at the CenturyLink Center in downtown Omaha, Neb.
Senior defender Kevin Gravel stepped into the spotlight as he posted the game winning goal at 16:38 of the third period with assists from Tim Daly and David Morley, which broke a 3-3 tie in the contest. The Huskies then iced the decision at 19:53 with an empty net goal by junior forward Brooks Bertsch that made the final 5-3.
SCSU opened the offense in the game at 8:02 of the first period with a goal by Kalle Kossila, which included assists from Jonny Brodzinski and Ryan Papa. This was Kossila's ninth goal of the campaign and it was Brodzinski's 12 assists and team leading 26th point of the year. Brodzinski will bring an eight-game point streak into the Huskies' second game against Nebraska Omaha on Feb. 1.
Omaha's Josh Archibald tied the game at 10:36 of the second with his 18th goal of the season to make it 1-1. the Huskies charged back into the lead at 2-1 with a goal by Joey Benik at 11:26 of the second. Assists were provided on the goal by Andrew Prochno and Jimmy Murray.
The Mavericks then tied the game again at 14:04 of the second with a marker by Dominic Zombo, which made the tally 2-2. Once again, Benik broke the deadlock with his seventh goal of the season at 16:45 of the second. Kossila and Ethan Prow had helpers on the goal.
An injury scratch for the Huskies over the last two weekends of play, Benik's return to the ice was impressive as he now has 15 points on the season. The points for Kossila move his season totals to nine goals and 12 assists and he will bring a six-game point streak into Saturday night at Omaha.
Omaha's Zahn Raubenheimer opened the third period with his third goal of the season at :28 of the final period. The game remained tied until Gravel's third period heriocs that helped push SCSU's current winning streak to two games.
Gravel now has three goals on the season and 14 points for the Huskies. On that play, Morley posted his team-leading 16th assist of the year and Daly added his first assist of 2013-14 on the goal.
Omaha outshot the Huskies 34-30 in the contest, but SCSU did manage to control play in the third by outshooting the Mavs 14-7 in the final round. On the night, SCSU was 0-of-2 on the power play and Omaha was 0-of-4.
Ryan Farahger was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 31 saves, while Reed Peters posted 25 saves in the loss for Omaha.
