RANK AND FILE:  The Huskies earned a number five ranking in both of the Division I men's college hockey polls this week. In the Pairwise Rankings on Jan. 29, the Huskies were ranked sixth.  In the RPI rankings, the Huskies were also ranked sixth on Jan. 29.
LAST TIME OUT:  The Huskies earned a third place finish at the North Star College Cup on Jan. 24-25 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. SCSU opened the weekend with a 4-1 loss to #1 ranked Minnesota and then won the consolation game with a 6-4 victory over Minnesota State Mankato on Jan. 25. Jonny Brodznski led the Huskies with a goal on Jan. 24 and then he posted two goals and one assist in the win over the Mavericks...Omaha was idle on Jan. 24-25. In the Mavs last time out, they charted a 2-2 tie and a 5-1 win at Miami on Jan. 17-18 in Oxford, Ohio.
HUSKY OLYMPIAN:Â Â Former St. Cloud State hockey player Andreas Nodl, who played for the Huskies from 2006 to 2008, will represent Austria at the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Â Nodl becomes the fifth former Husky player to compete in the Winter Olympics. Â The other former Huskies who have competed for Team USA at the Winter Games include Bret Hedican (1992 and 2006), Matt Cullen (2006), Mark Parrish (2006) and Ryan Malone (2010). Â A five-year veteran of the NHL, Nodl is currently playing pro hockey in Austria with Salzburg in 2013-14. Â As a Husky, Nodl was named the National Rookie of the Year and WCHA Rookie of the Year in 2007 and was also a two-time All-WCHA selection. Â He scored 36g/54a in two seasons at SCSU.
MORE ON MORLEY: David Morley continues his impressive sophomore season. Against Minnesota State, Morley scored one goal and one assist in the victory. He currently ranks fifth in the NCHC and leads the Huskies with 15 assists in 22 games played this year. He ranks third on the team with 21 points and is tied for the plus/minus lead along with defenders Andrew Prochno and Ethan Prow at +13 in 2013-14.
CAPTAIN'S LOG:  Captain Nic Dowd ranks second on the team this season with 12 goals and 22 points. Dowd is one of the NCHC leaders this season with six power play goals and four game winners to his credit in 2013-14. The newest member of SCSU's 100-point club, Dowd now has 103 points during his four years at SCSU and ranks 22nd in the team's Division I scoring charts. He moves ahead of Andrew Gordon (2004-07) and Sacha Molin (1995-98), who each had 102 career points at SCSU.
50 POINTS:  Senior forward Cory Thorson scored his seventh goal of the season on Jan. 25 in the win over MSU. This was Thorson's 50th career point as a Husky.
NET PROFIT:  Ryan Faragher improved to 12-4-3 with the Huskies' 6-4 win over Minnesota State on Jan. 25. Faragher ranks first in the NCHC with a .711 winning percentage in overall games play this season. In his career, Faragher owns a 45-29-7 record. He needs just three more wins to move into second place in the Huskies' record book for most career wins. Scott Meyer (1996-01) currently ranks second with 47 career wins, while Brian Leitza (1994-98) leads the book with 66 career wins.
ADVANTAGE SCSU:  The Huskies rank fourth in the nation (and first in the NCHC) on the power play at 23.4% this season (22-of-94). SCSU was 3-of-4 on the advantage in the win over MSU. On the topic of national leaders, SCSU ranks fifth in the nation (and first in the NCHC) in scoring this week at 3.50 goals per game. SCSU also ranks third among league teams with a defensive average of 2.50 goals allowed per game. SCSU has outscored its opponents 77-55 in 2013-14 and the Huskies have outshot their opponents 727-579 this winter.
GREAT SEASON:  In 22 games played this winter, senior defender Kevin Gravel has already hit a career season-high with two goals, 11 assists and 13 points. His previous career season-high for point was 12 (1g/11a) in 2012-13. Gravel had two assists in the Huskies win over MSU on Jan. 25. Gravel paces SCSU this winter with 43 blocked shots.
PROCHNO POINTS:  Junior Andrew Prochno is SCSU's top scoring blueliner with three goals, 12 assists and 15 points in 2013-14. In his three seasons at SCSU, Prochno has 72 points (13g/59a). He ranks sixth in the SCSU career charts for most points and most assists by a defenseman.
STREAK TIME:  Sophomore forward Kalle Kossila brings a five-game point streak into the Huskies' weekend series at UNO. Kossila had an assist on Jan. 24 and a goal on Jan. 25 to move his season totals to eight goals and 11 assists. In two years at SCSU, Kossila has 23 goals and 29 assists for a total of 52 points.
HUSKY NOTES AND NEWS:  St. Cloud State head coach Bob Motzko is in his ninth season with the Huskies and has won 175 career games. His teams at SCSU have earned four NCAA tournament bids and the Huskies advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2013...SCSU is 6-5-2 in play against nationally ranked teams this season...Interesting Note - SCSU has charted 30-or-more shots on goal in each of its five defeats this season...SCSU is 4-0-2 this season in games where the Huskies have been outshot by their opponents.
