St. Cloud State scores big 3-1 victory over UND

The #15/16 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (5-5-1, 2-2-1 NCHC) stretched its unbeaten streak to three games on Friday, Nov. 21 thanks to a big 3-1 win over #2/3 North Dakota (8-3-1, 3-2-0 NCHC) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies opened the game's scoring in the second period with a power play marker by junior defender Ethan Prow at 5:10. He was assisted on the play by Jonny Brodzinski and Joey Benik to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
UND charged back at 13:09 of the second period with a goal by Drake Caggiula, which included assists from Tucker Poolman and Mark MacMillan.
In the third period, SCSU regained the upper hand as Brodzinski chalked up the game winner at 1:38 of the period. Nathan Widman and Patrick Russell gained assists on the play. The assist was Widman's first as a Husky and it marked Russell's sixth assist of the season.
Brodzinski returned to the scoring circle at 9:43 of the final period with a power play insurance goal that padded SCSU's lead to 3-1. Benik and Kalle Kossila each gained assists on the play for the Huskies. The goal was Brodzinski's team leading seventh of the season and it was also his 50th career goal at SCSU. He is the 18th player during SCSU's Division I era to score 50 or more goals during their career.
The assist was Kossila's team-leading seventh helper of the season, while Benik ended his evening with two assists to push his season total to five.
On the night, SCSU outshot UND by a 34-27 tally. SCSU was 2-of-4 on the power play and UND was 0-of-3. In the nets, Charlie Lindgren charted 26 saves in the contest while Zane McIntyre had 31 saves for UND.

The annual SCSU Teddy Bear Toss will take place tomorrow night between the first and second period. All fans coming to the game are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or stuff animal toy to throw onto the ice during the first intermission. All toys collected will be donated to this year's Toys for Tots drive in St. Cloud.
