#6/7 St. Cloud State ends weekend with 3-1 loss to #17 UMD

The #6/7 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (3-5-0, 0-2-0 NCHC) completed its weekend series against #17 Minnesota Duluth (6-4-0, 4-2-0 NCHC) with a 3-1 loss on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring with a goal by Dominic Toninato at 3:22 of the first period, which was assisted by Justin Crandall. UMD's Austin Farley added the eventual game winner at 19:23 of the first period, which included a pair of assists from Alex Iadallo and Andy Welinski.
St. Cloud State rallied in the second period with a power play goal by Joey Benik at 1:41. This was his fourth goal of the season and it was assisted by Mike Ilvonen and Andrew Prochno. The point was Ilvonen's first as a collegiate player and it was Prochno's third assist of the season.
Both teams hunkered down for a defensive stalemate for the remainder of the second period and for most of the third period before the Bulldogs ended the decision with an empty net goal at 18:59 by Crandall. Iafallo had the lone assist on the play, which made the final 3-1.
On the night, UMD outshot the Huskies 29-28. SCSU was 1-3 on the power play and UMD was 0-3 on the advantage. In the nets, Charlie Lindgren kept the Huskies in contention with 26 saves in the contest, while Kasimir Kaskisuo helped UMD gain the weekend sweep with 27 saves to his credit.
The Huskies will return to the ice next weekend with a pair of NCHC road dates at Western Michigan University on Nov. 14-15. Both games are slated to start at 6 p.m. (CT).
