Women's Basketball Falls to Winona State, 59-69

Winona, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team matched-up against the Warriors of Winona State in Friday night Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action this evening. Winona State held an 11-game losing streak heading into tonight's contest, but was able to end that with a 69-59 victory over St. Cloud State.
The Huskies fall to 13-10 overall and 9-10 in the NSIC. Winona State improves to 9-14 overall and 5-14 in conference action. This is Winona State's first win since Jan. 3.
The Huskies started out strong, taking an early 11-point lead with under eight minutes to go in the first half. The Warriors went on a run, finishing the half strong to take a 37-32 lead at the half.
Winona State kept their momentum going, knocking down four shots with the shot clock expiring and going up by as much as 16 with 7:07 left on the clock. Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) and Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) both suffered from foul trouble early in the half.
The Huskies made a late comeback, reaching within five with just three minutes to play. The Warriors were able to hold onto the lead, winning by ten in final scoring.
Rachael Moen (Savage) led the Huskies with 15 points and five steals. Jessica Benson finished with 12 points and Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) posted 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Warriors were led by Connor Nagle with 23 points and Abby Busch with 22.
Winona State shot 48.1% from the field; the Huskies shot 36.8%.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa University at 4 p.m.
