Women's Basketball Earns Weekend Split with 88-79 Win Over Upper Iowa

Fayette, Iowa – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team bounced back from last night's loss to Winona State with a nine-point victory over Upper Iowa University in Saturday night action. The Huskies held on to a first half lead to edge the Peacocks 88-79.
St. Cloud State finishes the weekend with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) split and advances to 14-10 overall and 10-10 in conference action. Upper Iowa falls to 5-19 overall and 4-16 in the NSIC.
After five tied scores and four lead changes in the first half, the Huskies held a six-point advantage at the midway point (50-44). St. Cloud State kept the lead for the remainder of the game, leading by as much as 13 with less than five minutes to play. Upper Iowa made a comeback, cutting the Huskies' lead to four with 1:26 to play. Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) knocked down four of four free throw attempts in the final minute to secure the win.
Sam Price led the Huskies with 25 points on three of five shooting from beyond the arc. Price went a perfect six for six at the line and grabbed five rebounds.
Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) finished with a double-double, recording a career-high 12 rebounds and 11 points.
Rachael Moen (Savage) hit four shots from three-point range and finished with 16 points. Moen dished out five assists. Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) went five of 10 from the field to finish with 11 points. Benson grabbed eight rebounds and totaled four assists.
Whitney Kieffer led the Peacocks with 33 points.
The Huskies shot 43% from the field; Upper Iowa shot 40.3% on the night.
St. Cloud State will return to action next weekend as they host Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State University in their final regular season NSIC games of the season.
