#5/6 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey to Host #15 Denver

The #5/6 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (14-6-4, 8-4-2-0 NCHC) will return to action in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 with a pair of home games against #15 University of Denver (13-8-5, 7-5-2 NCHC). The games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (5,371 cap./200x100). The game on Friday, Feb. 7 will begin at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Saturday, Feb. 8 will begin at 707 p.m. Great tickets are available for both of these games and they can be purchased by visiting www.scsutickets.com or by calling 1-877-SCSUTICKETS.

BACK TO THE 80s: The SCSU hockey game on Feb. 8 vs. Denver has been designated as 80's Night at the Brooks Center. Fans are encouraged to turn the clock back a few decades and come dressed in their best 1980s garb. The night will include a costume contest that will provide two tickets to the upcoming NCHC tournament to the fan wearing the best 1980s outfit.

RANK AND FILE: The Huskies earned a number five ranking in this week's USA TODAY/USA Hockey poll and a #6 ranking in the USCHO.com poll this week. In the Pairwise rankings at 10 a.m. on Feb. 5, the Huskies were ranked 10th. SCSU was the top ranked team from the NCHC in the Pairwise on Feb 5.
OLYMPIAN: Former Husky Andreas Nodl (2006-08) will represent Austria at the 2014 Winter Olympics in men's hockey. Nodl had 36g/54a during his career at SCSU.
THE LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies split a pair of games at Omaha on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. SCSU opened the weekend on Jan. 31 with a 5-3 win over the Mavericks. Kevin Gravel notched the game winner for SCSU.  The game marked the first victory in Omaha for the Huskies in the series. On Feb. 1, the Huskies lost an 8-6 decision as Kalle Kossila led SCSU with his first career hat trick. This was the most goals allowed by SCSU in a game since an 8-1 loss at UND on Feb. 13, 2010. Â
NCHC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SKalle Kossila posted the Huskies' first hat trick of the 2013-14 on Feb. 1 at Nebraska Omaha. Kossila had three goals in the 8-6 loss at Omaha and he also had one goal and one assist in SCSU's 5-3 win on Jan. 31 at UNO. The last Husky hat trick was netted by David Morley on Dec. 7, 2012 against Nebraska Omaha at the Brooks Center. Kossila will bring a seven-game point streak into the series against DU on Feb. 7-8. He also owns a three-game goal streak for the Huskies. Over those seven games, Kossila has 11 points and seven goals. On the season, Kossila ranks second on the team with 24 points and 12 goals. For his work at UNO, Kossila was named the NCHC's Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 3.
NCHC PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Jonny Brodzinski was named the NCHC Player of the Month for January. He led the Huskies in the month with six goals and four assists. Brodzinski leads the Huskies with 14 goals and 26 points in 2013-14. He is now a candidate for the HCA DI National Player of the Month.
POTENT OFFENSE: The Huskies currently rank third in the nation on offense with 3.67 goals per game (88 goals). SCSU's current team record for goals per game in a season is 4.26 goals per game in 2001-02. The Huskies scored 179 goals in 42 games during the 2001-02 season... SCSU's power play ranks fifth in the nation at 23.2 percent in 2013-14. The Huskies are 23-of-99 on the advantage with Nic Dowd leading the team with six power play goals this winter.
SUPER SEASON: Senior Kevin Gravel has three goals this year, which is already a career season-high. Prior to 2013-14, Gravel had a total of three goals to his credit in his first three seasons at SCSU. Gravel also has 11 assists and 14 points in 2013-14.
HE'S BACK: Sophomore Joey Benik returned to the ice on Jan. 31 after missing the previous five games as an injury scratch. Benik made a quick impact with two goals in the 5-3 win at UNO on Jan. 31. He completed the weekend with a pair of assists in the 8-6 loss on Feb. 1. On the season, Benik has seven goals and 10 assists.
FARAGHER FACTS:  SCSU goalie Ryan Faragher owns a 13-5-3 record this season, which places him 10th in the nation with a winning percentage of 69.0 percent. In his career, Faragher has 46 wins for the Huskies. Of note, Scott Meyer ranks second in the team records for the Huskies with 47 career wins from 1996-01.
FIRST ONE:Â Junior defenseman Tim Daly scored his first assist of the 2013-14 season in SCSU's win at UNO on Jan. 31.
