#12 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey to host #14/15 Minnesota State Mankato

The #12 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) return to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Oct. 16-17 for a pair of home games against Minnesota State University Mankato. The game on Friday, Oct. 16 will begin at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Saturday, Oct. 17 will begin at 7:07 p.m. Great tickets are available for both of these contests and they can be purchased at www.scsutickets.com or by calling 1-877-SCSUTIX.

POLL POSITION: SCSU was ranked #12 in the USCHO.com and the USA Today/USA Hockey DI national polls this week. Minnesota State Mankato is ranked #14/15 in the national polls this week.
QUICK HITS:
- Senior Kalle Kossila scored his 100th career point on Oct. 9 vs. Alaska.
- SCSU soph Nathan Widman was named the NCHCÂ Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12.

25 YEARS: Former SCSU All-American Dave Reichel, celebrated his 25th season of providing color commentary on SCSU's men's hockey radio broadcasts in 2014-15. He begins his 26th season behind the mic in 2015-16 and will be working alongside SCSU play-by-play announcer Dan Terhaar on KCML FM 99.9. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on www.lite999.com.Â
AWARD WINNER: Soph defender Nathan Widman was selected as the NCHC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12 for his play in the weekend sweep at the Kendall Hockey Classic. Widman had two assists and was +5 on the plus/minus over the weekend. Â
100 AND COUNTING:  Senior forward Kalle Kossila joined SCSU's 100-point cub on Oct. 9 with his assist on Joey Benik's power play goal at 2:07 of the first period. Kossila becomes just the 27th player in team history to score 100 career points. He completed the weekend with an assist on Oct. 10 vs. UAA. In 118 career games at SCSU, Kossila now has 34 goals and 67 assists. Kossila is the active career leader in points in the NCHC with 101.
STRONG DEBUT: Freshman forward Robby Jackson made his on-ice debut on Oct. 10 and made an immediate impact with two first period goal, including the game winner in the 6-2 decision. Jackson is a resident of Alameda, Calif. He is one of two SCSU players from California on the roster. The other California resident on the roster is freshman forward Patrick Newell, who is a resident of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
SHORT STORY:  Judd Peterson scored SCSU's first shorthanded goal of 2015-16 on Oct. 10 in the win over UAA. Peterson finished his weekend in Anchorage with two goals. Of note, SCSU's lone shorthanded goal in 2014-15 was posted by Joey Benik..
ROOKIE POINTS:Â SCSU rookies earning their first assists in 2015-16 included Jon Lizotte (on Oct. 9) and Jacob Benson and Mikey Essyimont on Oct. 10.
DRAFT PICK: Newcomer Will Borgen was selected by Buffalo in this year's NHL draft. He will join Judd Peterson (Buffalo) and Ben Storm (Colorado) as NHL drafted players on this year's roster. Of note, former Huskies Matt Cullen (Pittsburgh) and Matt Hendricks (Edmonton) are both listed on NHL rosters to start the 2015-16 season.
THE PUCK STOPS HERE: Junior goalie Charlie Lindgren earned his fourth career shutout with his 3-0 win over Oct. 9. In the game, Lindgren had 14 saves. This was SCSU's first shutout since a 2-0 victory vs. Omaha on Feb. 21, 2015. SCSU senior goalie Rasmus Reijola finished the sweep in the nets with his 6-2 victory over UAA on Oct. 10. He made 15 saves in the game.
RANDOM NOTES: SCSU outshot its opponents 62-31 in action at the Kendall Hockey Classic. SCSU was also 3-of-10 on the power play this past weekend.
MAVERICK MENTIONS: SCSU is 25-15-7 in the all-time series (at the DI level) vs. Minnesota State, Mankato. In the all-time series, SCSU trails 48-58-13. In the last meeting between these schools at the HBNHC, SCSU rolled to a 5-1, 5-1 sweep on Oct. 26-27, 2012.  SCSU's last game vs. Minnesota State was a 6-4 win vs. the Mavs on Jan. 25, 2014 at the North Star Cup in the third place game in St. Paul...SCSU is 5-0-0 in the last five games between these two schools and 6-3-1 in the last 10 games. SCSU is 16-9-4 in the series against Minnesota State in games played in St. Cloud...
