#13/14 Huskies to host #14/15 Miami on Oct. 30-31

The #13/14 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (4-2-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) will return to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center for the NCHC season opener against #14/15 Miami University (3-2-1, 0-0-0 NCHC) on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31. The game on Oct. 30 will start at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Oct. 31 will begin at 7:07 p.m.  The game on Oct. 30 will be team poster night with 1,000 SCSU men's hockey team posters being handed out courtesy of the St. Cloud Times and the game on Oct. 31 will feature a Halloween costume contest...so come out to the game dressed in your best Halloween costume on Oct. 31.

TEAM POSTER GIVEAWAY: The game on Friday, Oct. 30 has been designated as SCSU men's hockey team poster night. The St. Cloud Times will be distributing 1,000 free 2015-16 SCSU men's team posters on Oct. 30 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.Â
POLL POSITION: SCSU was ranked #14 in the USCHO.com and 13th in the USA Today/USA Hockey DI national polls this week. Miami is ranked #14/15 in the national polls this week.
FOLLOW THE HUSKIES THIS WEEKEND:  The SCSU-Miami games will be aired live on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com) and on KVSC FM 88.1 (www.kvsc.org). Fans can watch the games this weekend on the SCSU Sports Network, which is available on Charter Cable channel 426/823. The games are also slated to air in the Twin Cities on Comcast Xfinity cable channel 999.
TOUGH TRIP:  SCSU lost its first games of the 2015-16 season with 5-2 and 4-1 setbacks at nationally ranked Quinnipiac on Oct. 23-24...on Oct. 23, Judd Peterson scored both goals for the Huskies while Ben Storm added the solo goal for SCSU on Oct. 24. This was Storm's first goal of the 2015-16 season.

TEAM LEADER:  SCSU sophomore Judd Peterson, a draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres, paces the Huskies this season with five goals. He added two goals in SCSU's 5-2 loss at nationally ranked Quinnipiac on Oct. 23. He also leads the nation with two shorthanded goals this season...Peterson hit a career game-high with eight shots on goal during the Huskies' game on Oct. 23.
NO REST FOR THE WEARY:Â Â Of note, the Huskies' schedule through the holiday break features 16 games against teams currently ranked (or receiving votes) in the Division I national polls.
HELPING HAND:  Senior forward Kalle Kossila scored his 70th career assist on Oct. 23. Kossila now has 105 career points as a Husky and he is the 19th SCSU player in team history at the DI level to score 70 assists in his career.
STORM REPORT:  SCSU junior Ben Storm, an NHL draft pick of Colorado, posted his first goal of the 2015-16 season on Oct. 24 at Quinnipiac. In three seasons at SCSU, Storm has scored three goals and six assists. Storm has transitioned to the forward position after starting his career at SCSU as a blueliner.
OFFENSE ON DEFENSE:  Sophomore defender Nathan Widman continues to find success on offense in 2015-16. He posted his fifth assist of the season in SCSU's 4-1 loss to Quinnipiac, which is one shy of his total season output of six assists for the Huskies in 2014-15. A transfer from Brown University, Widman serves as a team captain for the Huskies in 2015-16... Widman bring a three-game point scoring streak into the Huskies weekend series against Miami on Oct. 30-31.
GOALIE UPDATE:   Junior netminder Charlie Lindgren allowed his first goals of the season during SCSU's weekend at Quinnipiac but he continues to own impressive numbers this winter. After five games, Lindgren has a 1.80 goals against average and a .935 save rate. He has made 129 saves for SCSU this season.
ABOUT MIAMI:   The Huskies are 7-11-2 during the all-time series against Miami, which dates back to a pair of losses (8-1 and 5-3) on Nov. 13-14, 1987 in Oxford, Ohio...Last season, the Huskies scored a 3-1 and 3-2 weekend sweep at home against Miami on Jan. 9-10, 2015. At the NCHC Frozen Faceoff, the Huskies lost a 3-2 decision in the tournament¹s championship game at the Target Center...SCSU is 3-4-1 in action against Miami at the HBNHC during the series. SCSU is 3-2-0 against Miami in the last five games of the series and the Huskies are 6-3-1 in the last 10 games of this series.
DRAFT PICK:  Newcomer Will Borgen was selected by Buffalo in this year's NHL draft. He will join Judd Peterson (Buffalo) and Ben Storm (Colorado) as NHL drafted players on this year's roster. Of note, former Huskies Matt Cullen (Pittsburgh) and Matt Hendricks (Edmonton) are both listed on NHL rosters to start the 2015-16 season.
RANDOM NOTES: Sophomore blueliner Mika Ilvonen charted his first point and assist of the 2015-16 during the Huskies¹ game at Quinnipiac on Oct. 23...the five goals allowed on Oct. 23 by the Huskies were the most allowed in a single game since a 5-3 loss at Omaha on Dec. 13, 2015...the five goals allowed by Charlie Lindgren in that contest were the most allowed by Lindgren in a game during his career.
BYE WEEK:Â The Huskies will enjoy a week off on Nov. 6-7 before returning to action on Nov. 13-14 with a pair of games in Kalamazoo, Mich. against NCHC rival Western Michigan.
