St. Cloud State men's hockey drops 4-2 decision at UMD

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team lost a 4-2 decision at #6 Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Feb. 13. The loss moves SCSU's record to 12-14-7, 7-9-1 NCHC, while the Bulldogs improve to 18-10-1, 10-6-1 NCHC in 2014-15.
The Huskies and Bulldogs will complete their weekend series with a 7:07 p.m. game at the Amsoil Arena on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Duluth, Minn. Fans can listen to the contest on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com) with Dan Terhaar and Dave Reichel on the call from Duluth. The Huskies opened the night's scoring on Feb. 13 with a goal by Blake Winiecki at 19:09 of the first period. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by David Morley and Andrew Prochno.
SCSU's 1-0 lead stood through the first two periods as netminder Charlie Lindgren turned aside 22 UMD shots during that time to give SCSU the edge.
In the third period, UMD broke the shutout with a goal at 3:06 by Jared Thomas. Willie Raskob and Alex Iafallo posted assists on the play that made it 1-1. Derik Johnson pushed UMD's lead to 2-1 with a marker at 6:30 of the third with helpers from Austin Farley and Tony Cameranesi.
UMD's Justin Crandall added the game winner at 16:30 with his power play effort that was assisted by Iafallo and goalie Kasmir Kaskisuo. The Huskies rallied just over a minute later with a goal by Joey Benik at 17:52 of the third period. Assists on the play were credited to Morley and Niklas Nevalainen, which made the tally 3-2. This was Benik's 10th goal of the season and it was Morley's 11th assist of the year.
UMD iced the game at 19:55 of the third with an empty netter by Adam Krause that made the final 4-2.
On the night, UMD outshot the Huskies 34-20. Lindgren had 30 saves in the game and Kaskisuo had 18 saves for UMD in the nets. On the power play, SCSU was 0-2 and UMD was 1-2.
