SCSU Men's Hockey drops 3-1 decision at UND on Feb. 28

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team lost a 3-1 decision at #1 North Dakota on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. Â The loss moves SCSU's record to 15-16-1, 10-11-1 NCHC, while UND moves to 24-6-3, 15-5-2.
In the first period, North Dakota gained a 1-0 lead with an even strength goal by Austin Poganski at 7:53. Â He was assisted on the play by Connor Gaarder and Brendan O'Donnell. Â
North Dakota padded its lead in the second period with two unanswered goals. Â The first goal was posted by Gaarder at 6:58 of the period with helpers from Tucker Poolman and Keaton Thompson. Â UND stretched its lead to 3-0 with a power play marker by Nick Mattson at 19:19 of the period. Â The solo assist on the play was credited to Paul LaDue.
The Huskies rallied in the third period with a power play goal by Ethan Prow at 4:33. Â He was assisted on the play by Judd Peterson and Joe Rehkamp. Â This was Prow's fourth goal of the season and his 11th point since Jan. 30. Â The assists were Peterson third of the season and Rehkamp's 11th of the year. Â
In the game, UND outshot the Huskies 29-28. Â On the power play, UND was 1-4 and SCSU was 1-7. Â Zane McIntyre had 26 saves in the game while starter Charlie Lindgren allowed three goals, made 20 saves and was the goalie of record. Â Rasmus Reijola played the final period and made six saves for the Huskies.
The Huskies will continue their season with the final regular season home games of 2014-15 on March 6-7 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Â The game on March 6 begins at 8:07 p.m. and the start on March 7 will begin at 7:07 p.m. Â The game on March 6 will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
The game on March 7 will feature a special salute to all of the 2014-15 SCSU seniors before the game.
