Sweep of #7 Omaha sends Huskies hockey to the NCHC Frozen Face-Off

Omaha, Neb. – The St. Cloud State men's hockey team punched their ticket to the NCHC Frozen Face-Off with a 3-1 win to complete a series road sweep of Omaha Saturday night. The Huskies defeated the Mavericks 2-1 in double overtime on Friday night.
The Huskies will be making their first trip to the Frozen Face-Off to be played at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Friday and Saturday, March 20-21.
St. Cloud State improved to 18-17-1 overall and climbed to #11 in the pairwise rankings. #7 Omaha went to 18-12-6 overall.
Junior center David Morley (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored the first goal of the game on the power play at 15:59 of the first period. Omaha's Brian Cooper was called for a five minute boarding and game misconduct that put the Huskies on the long power play. Morley scored with :36 seconds left in the man advantage. It was his third goal of the weekend as he accounted for both of Friday's goals. Ben Storm and Mika Ilvonen assisted on the play.
Senior center Nick Oliver (Roseau, Minn.) gave the Huskies a two-goal lead at 11:47 of the second period with a shot just inside the blue line. Joe Rehkamp and Tim Daly were credited with the assists on the play.
Omaha's Grant Gallo scored his second goal of the season on the power play at 16:44 of the third period and was assisted by Ian Brady and Jake Guentzel.
A wrap around goal by Huskies junior wing Joey Benik (Andover, Minn.) gave the visiting team a two goal cushion at 17:37 of the third period.
The Huskies were outshot 16-5 in the third period and 36-28 for the game. Sophomore goaltender Charlie Lindgren (Lakeville, Minn.) had 35 saves for a weekend total of 80 saves.
