Huskies sweep UAH with 5-2 victory over Alabama Huntsville

St. Cloud, Minn. - The #10 St. Cloud State University men's (4-2-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) continued its winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Alabama Huntsville (2-7-1, 2-3-1 WCHA) on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, MInn.
The victory moved SCSU's current win streak to four games as the Huskies prepare for a weekend series at home against NCHC rival Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 4-5 at the HBNHC.
SCSU set the tempo in the victory over UAH thanks to a four-goal second period that helped offset a 1-0 deficit at the end of the first period. UAH started the game's offense with a goal by Josh Kestner at 13:41 of the first period.
In the second period, SCSU's Patrick Newell broke the shutout with an unassisted shorthanded goal. This was Newell's second goal of the 2016-17 season. SCSU stretched its lead to 2-1 with an even strength goal by Blake Winiecki at 11:05 of the second, which was assisted by Ryan Papa and Jack Ahcan.
Ahcan remained in the spotlight as he netted SCSU's third goal of the night at 13:23 of the second. He was assisted on the game winner by Will Borgen and Daneil Tedesco. This was Ahcan's first collegiate goal at St. Cloud State. Ahcan then added his third point of the night with the first assist on Ryan Poehling's goal at 19:37 of the second period. The second assist on Poehling's power play marker was set by Mikey Eyssimont.
Ahcan now has five assists on the season for the Huskies.
UAH rallied in the third period with a goal by Cam Knight at 10:02, which made the score 4-2. The evening's scoring was completed by Judd Peterson, who scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year at 13:41 with assists from Will Borgen and Jimmy Schuldt. Borgen now has three assists this year, while Schuldt is tied for the team's assist lead at five with Ahcan.
In the contest, SCSU outshot the Chargers 29-12. Zach Driscoll earned his third victory of the season in the nets with 10 saves for the Huskies. Jordan Uhelski made 24 saves in the loss for UAH. On the power play, SCSU was 1-6 and UAH was 0-4.

- Jack Ahcan ranks ninth among DI players with a scoring average of 1.20 points per game, and he ranks 10th among DI rookies with 1.20 ppg.
- Ahcan brings a four-game point scoring streak into next week's series against UMD.
