Huskies on the road to Minnesota Duluth for games on Jan. 13-14

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (9-10-1, 4-7-1 NCHC) will continue its 2016-17 season on Jan. 13 with a 7:05 p.m. (CT) road game at NCHC rival #2 Minnesota Duluth (12-4-4, 8-3-1 NCHC). The two teams will complete the weekend series at the Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minn. with a 7:07 p.m. (CT) game on Saturday, Jan. 14.

NORTH STAR CUP PRE-GAME: St. Cloud State men's hockey fans! If you are going to the Huskies' games at the North Star Cup on January 27-28 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, stop by The Liffey across the street and gather with other St. Cloud State alumni and Huskies fans! The pre-game social on Friday, Jan. 27 will get underway at 2 p.m. - prior to the start of the SCSU game against Bemidji State at 4 p.m. Food and beverage will be available for purchase at The Liffey. SCSU fans are invited to come back to The Liffey on Saturday, Jan. 28 before the Huskies play again in the North Star Cup. Game times on Jan. 28 are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the SCSU game time will be determined by the results of the games on Jan. 27. LAST WEEK: The Huskies most recently lost two games on the road at Miami by scores of 3-2 (OT) and 4-1 on Jan. 6-7 in Oxford, Ohio.
50 POINTS: Sophomore Mikey Eyssimont leads SCSU this season with 10 goals and 18 points scored. In play at Miami, Eyssimont scored his 50th career point at SCSU. He now has 51 points, 24 goals and 27 assists in 60 games played at SCSU. Of note, SCSU's all-time scoring leader Ryan Lasch had 92 points to his credit after his first two seasons with the Huskies. Eyssimont is a draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings.
50 POINTS II: Junior Blake Winiecki ranks second on the SCSU scoring charts this season with 17 points and nine goals. He also hit the 50-point plateau in Miami last weekend. In 96 games played in the cardinal and black, Winiecki now has 51 points, 26 goals and 25 assists.
BACK HOME: SCSU junior Judd Peterson will be headed back home this weekend for the games at UMD. A resident of Duluth and grad of Marshall H.S., Peterson is tied for second on the SCSU goal scoring list this winter with nine goals. He is SCSU's top active goal scorer with 29 career goals in 95 games played. He is an NHL draft pick of Buffalo.
TWIN PORTS DOG FIGHT: The Huskies and UMD Bulldogs have enjoyed a long history during the series between the two schools. SCSU owns a 61-43-8 series lead, which started with an 8-1 win for the Huskies during the 1946-47 season. In the first meeting during SCSU's DI era, the Bulldogs posted a 4-3 win in Duluth on Jan. 10, 1989... Earlier this season, SCSU lost at home to the Bulldogs by scores of 5-3 and 5-3 on Nov. 4-5... The Huskies posted a 3-1 victory in the title games at the 2016 NCHC Frozen Faceoff in Minneapolis. Mikey Eyssimont had two goals to helped SCSU gain the victory and the tournament title. In seven games played against UMD during his career, Eyssimont has five goals... SCSU is 1-4-0 in the last five meetings against UMD. In the regular season last year, SCSU lost by scores of 4-1 and 2-1 at home on Feb. 26-27, 2016 and the Huskies posted a 3-1 win and 1-1 OT tie in Duluth on Jan. 15-16, 2016.
TWIN CITIES COVERAGE: The SCSU home games on Jan. 20-21 (vs. Denver) and March 3-4 (vs. Colorado College) will be televised live in the Twin Cities area on Comcast Cable channel 999. The games will also be televised (as usual) on Charter Cable's SCSU Sports Network, which is produced by the award winning Husky Productions student staff and play-by-play by Jim Rich.
STREAK SNAPPED: SCSU allowed two power play goals in the loss at Miami on Jan. 6. These PPGs snapped a streak of six games in which the Huskies did not allow a power play goal. SCSU was 22-of-22 on the penalty kill during this six game stretch. Prior to Jan. 6, the last game that the Huskies had allowed a power play goal was on Nov. 19 against North Dakota.
A SHORT STORY: The Huskies allowed their first shorthanded goal of the season on Jan. 7 at Miami. Kiefer Sherwood scored the SHG at 10:09 of the first period to give MU a 1-0 lead in the game. The last time that SCSU allowed a SHG was on Dec. 4, 2015. Omaha's Jake Guentzel scored that SHG at 2:52 of 2nd.
CLEAN ACT: SCSU is the second least penalized team in the nation with an average of 9.8 penalty minutes per games this season.
BACK HOME NEXT WEEK: The Huskies will complete a six-game road trip this weekend in Duluth. SCSU returns to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Jan. 20-21 for home dates against NCHC rival Denver. The last home games for the Huskies were a weekend series against Omaha on Dec. 9-10. Of note, SCSU is 4-5-0 at home this season and 5-5-1 on the road.
