St. Cloud State men's hockey drops 3-2 decision in OT at Miami

Oxford, Ohio - The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (9-9-1, 4-6-1 NCHC) dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at Miami University (6-8-5, 2-4-3 NCHC) on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio.
The Huskies will complete the two-game set at Miami on Saturday, Jan. 7 with a 6:07 p.m. (CT) game against the RedHawks. Fans can listen to the game live on REV 96.7 FM (www.rev967.com) with Jim Erickson on the call from Oxford.
In a defensive battle, SCSU and Miami battled to a scoreless tie after the first period of play that saw both teams post 11 shots on target. In the second period, SCSU broke the shutout with a goal at 13:47 by Mikey Eyssimont. He was assisted on the play by Patrick Newell and Blake Winiecki. The goal was Eyssimont's team-leading 10th of the season and it was Newell's team-leading 14th assist of the season.
The points were also the 50th career points for both Eyssimont and Winiecki at SCSU.
In the third period, Miami got on the board with a goal by Anthony Louis at 11:46. SCSU rebounded to gain a 2-1 lead with a goal by Winiecki on the power play at 17:01. Assists on the play were provided by Jacon Benson and Eyssimont. The goal was Winieck's ninth of the season and it was Eyssimont's ninth assist of the year.
In the closing minute of regulation, Miami tied the game at 19:03 with an extra attacker power play goal by Josh Melnick. In the overtime session, Miami collected the win with a power play marker by Melnick at 1:23.
In the game, Miami outshot the Huskies 34-31. SCSU was 1-of-3 on the power play and Miami was 2-of-6 on the power. This marked the first power play goal allowed by the Huskies since Nov. 19 against North Dakota. In the nets, Jeff Smith was the goalie of record for SCSU with 31 slaves, while Ryan Larkin had 29 saves in the win for Miami.
