Men’s Basketball Falls to Saint John’s, 73-67

St. Cloud, Minn. –St. Cloud State's men's basketball team (2-2) lost a tough-fought 73-67 game to Saint John's (2-0) to close out the 2017 Husky Hoopster Classic on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Halenbeck Hall.
Senior Jon Averkamp and junior Brindley Theisen tied for the team lead with 12 points each. Averkamp also had seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. Theisen also totaled three rebounds and a pair of assists. Junior Sean Smith had nine points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Senior Andy Foley totaled 11 points and block. Junior Adam Heede-Andersen picked up six points, three rebounds and a pair of assists. Freshman Drew Lewis recorded 10 points, four rebounds and a steal. Sophomore Trevon Marshall had five points and two assists.
The Johnnies put four players in double figures and were led by Tyler Weiss' 18 points. Lucas Walford had seven points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Patrick Strom totaled 16 points. Garrett Gomez had a game-high seven assists.
The Huskies shot 39.7 percent from the field (25-for-63) and 25 percent from three-point range (4-for-16). The team also hit on 72.2 percent of the free throw attempts (13-for-18). The Johnnies shot 55.1 percent from the field (27-for-49) and 50 percent from three-point range (6-for-12). The program also hit 86.7 percent of their free throw attempts (13-for-15)
The Huskies led 32-31 at the break, but were outscored 42-35 over the final 20 minutes of action. The Johnnies took the lead for good midway through the second half, 49-48, on a made three from Jubie Alade. After falling down by as much as nine points, 59-50, was able to get the lead down to four points, 69-65, on an Averkamp layup before falling 73-67.
The Huskies play a non-conference road game against normal conference rival Minnesota State on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 4 p.m.
