Men’s Basketball Plays Road Non-Conference Game Against Minnesota State on Saturday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (2-2) plays a single non-conference road game against NSIC conference rival Minnesota State (3-1) this Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn. starting at 4 p.m.

Scouting Minnesota State
- Minnesota State, who are predicted to finish fifth overall in the NSIC standings this season, are off to a 3-1 start on the campaign.
- The Mavericks have won three in a row after falling to Pittsburg State by a 90-80 to start the season at the MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge.
- The program defeated Missouri Southern State in overtime on the second day during the first weekend and went to Rohnert, Calif. to play against Dominican (W, 83-72) and Fresno Pacific (W, 93-68) last weekend.
- The game this Saturday will be the home opener for Minnesota State.
- The Mavericks are coached by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 17th year running the program and has a 354-144 record.
- The Mavericks are averaging 86.8 points per game, while shooting 49.6 percent from the field, 37.9 percent from three-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line.
- Four different players are averaging double figures for the program and are led by Charlie Brown and his average of 19.8 points per game.
- Brown is also shooting 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line in his nearly 37 minutes a game.
- He is also tied for the team lead with 15 assists and leads the squad with four steals.
- Kevin Kreiger is averaging 14 points per game.
- He is shooting 46.8 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three-point range and 78.9 percent from the free throw line.
- Chris Hendrix's sports an average of 11.5 points per game.
- He is also the leading rebounder at 5.5 boards per contest.

- St. Cloud State is 95-85 all-time against Minnesota State since the start of the series in 1923-24.
- The Huskies have lost the last seven games to the Mavericks with the last victory over MSU coming during the 2011-12 season by a 64-63 score.
- The team lost twice to Minnesota State last season by identical scores of 79-62 on Nov. 26 and Feb. 4.
- The home non-conference game against MSU last season saw Gage Davis lead the team with 17 points and nine rebounds.
- Kurt Hall totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds in the loss as well.
- It was one of two double-doubles he had last season.
- The game also was one of only two times last season in which Scottie Stone didn't get to double figures as he was held to six points.

- The Huskies went 1-1 at the hosted Husky Hoopster Classic from Nov. 17-18.
- The program defeated Mayville State 67-51 and lost to Saint John's 73-67.
- Senior Jon Averkamp led the way in both games.
- He scored a season-high 26 points with 10 rebounds against Mayville State.
- It was his first double-double of the season and the second double-double of his career.
- Junior Sean Smith also a career evening with 19 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks against Mayville State.

- Averkamp and junior Brindley Theisen tied for the team with 12 points each in the loss to Saint John's.
- Foley scored a season-high 11 points against the Johnnies.
- Freshman Drew Lewis reached double figures for the first time in his career with 10 points against Saint John's.
- Smith led the team in rebounding with 10 against Saint John's.
- The loss was the third in the last four contests against Saint John's.
- Averkamp has led or tied for the team lead in scoring in all four games this season and has scored 25 or more points in three of the contests.
- He is third in the NSIC in scoring on the season at 22 points per game.
- Averkamp is also fifth in the league at 60 percent shooting from the field.
- He is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.3) and fifth in offensive rebounding (3.75).
- Averkamp has also added the three-point shot to his game this season with six made threes and making seven threes (all last season) in his first three years with the program.
- He is also sixth in the league in total points (88) and seventh in total rebounds (33).

- He is averaging a double-double this season with an average of 10.8 points per game and 11 rebounds per contest.
- Theisen is second on the team with his average of 15 points per game.
- He has scored in double figures in three of the four games.
- Theisen is seventh in the league in three-point attempts.
- Heede-Andersen leads the team in assists per game (3.25), total assists (13) and steals (9).
- He is ninth in the league in steals and 14th in assists.
