Burke and Schwartz set new team records
The St. Cloud State University men's swimming and diving team placed second and the women's team placed third at the presitigious Rochester Invitational, which was hosted by SCSU and held in Rochester, Minn. on Dec. 1-3. The SCSU men's team tallied 1,876.50 points to place second, while DI rival South Dakota won the title with 2,088.50 points.
In the women's competition, Division I South Dakota placed first with 1,889 points followed by Minnesota State Mankato with 1,644 points and SCSU with 1,604.50 points.

On the third day of competition, SCSU's Andrea Bryson capped a strong weekend with a first place finish in the 100 freestyle at 51.78. She was followed in the race with a second place finish by teammate Jen Thompson at 51.88 and a third place finish by teammate Chelsea Gehrke at 51.94. All are NCAA B-Cut times.  Bryson returned in the 100 butterfly with a first place time of 56.65 at Rochester.
SCSU's Anthony Schwartz added a first place finish in the 200 backstroke at 1:50.18, while teammate Brian Burke was first in the 100 butterfly at 49.85 and Robert Leigh was second in the same event at 50.79. Of note, Burke set a new team record with his time in the 100 fly that was the oldest record in the team's books.
In the diving competition, SCSU's David Sufficool completed another week with a first place score of 482.20 in the men's 1M event on Sunday. On the women's side of diving, SCSU's Britin Thomsen placed third in the 3M event with a score of 429.45 and teammate Annaliesa Anderson was fourth at 417.70.
On day one, SCSU's men's 400 medley relay team of Anthony Schwartz, Connor Deitrich, Brian Burke and Triston Ferguson placed first with a time of 3:22.69. SCSU's 800 free relay of Burke, Will Nguyen, Bobby Poynter and Ferguson also placed second with a time of 6:55.43.
In the women's 800 free relay, SCSU placed third with a time 7:41.76. The team consisted of Jen Thompson, Ashley Wilson, Chelsea Gehrke and Andrea Bryson.
On the second day of competition at the Rochester Invitational, St. Cloud State scored a first place finish in the men's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.92. the team consisted of Anthony Schwartz, Connor Deitrich, Brian Burke and Triston Ferguson.

In the men's 100 backstroke, Schwartz placed first at 49.78 and Jack Spaeth was second at 51.54. Of note, Schwartz' time set a new team record in the 100 backstroke that surpassed Bob Simson's old record of 49.89 set in 2014.

In the women's 200 freestyle, Andrea Bryson brought home a first place finish with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:53.29.Â

The day also saw SCSU's 200 freestyle relay team of Ferguson, Ike Erickson, Spaeth and Burke win top honors with a time of 1:22.97.

In the Saturday diving events, David Sufficool won first place at 520.45 in the men's 3M event and Britin Thomsen placed second in the women's 1M event with a score of 404.45.
The Huskies will continue its season with their annual holiday break training trip before returning to competition on Jan. 12 with a meet at UW-LaCrosse.
