Women’s Basketball Earns 65-56 Win Over The University of Mary

Bismarck, N.D. – Senior Andrea Thomas scored 19 points to lead the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (7-4, 4-3 NSIC) to a 65-56 road victory over the University of Mary (6-8, 2-6 NSIC) on Sunday, Dec. 31, at the McDowell Activity Center.
Besides 19 points, Thomas also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman Tori Wortz also reached double figures with 14 points. Senior Amanda Christianson put up eight points and four rebounds. Sophomore Madelin Dammann recorded seven points and four rebounds. Redshirt sophomore Brianna Johnson totaled six rebounds, three points and a steal.
The University of Mary were led by 21 points from Gabbie Bohl. Bohl also had six rebounds and two blocks. Cassie Askvig totaled a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also had three blocks. Macy Williams picked up six points. Lauren Rotunda led the team with five assists plus had seven rebounds.
The Huskies shot 40.4 percent from the field (21-for-52), 42.1 percent from three-point range (8-for-19) and 88.2 percent from the line (15-for-17). SCSU had 32 rebounds, 11 assists and three blocks in the game. Mary shot 36.5 percent from the field (19-for-52), 37.5 percent from three-point range (6-for-16) and 57.1 percent from the free throw line (12-for-21). The Marauders totaled 34 rebounds, 12 assists, 18 turnovers, six blocks and two steals.
The game was tied at 28 at the half with the University of Mary outscoring SCSU 19-8 in the second quarter. The game featured four tied scores and six lead changes. SCSU took the lead for good with 35 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a made three from Dammann, 44-42. The program's largest lead was 14 points, 28-14, on a made three from Thomas at the 6:45 mark of the second quarter.
The St. Cloud State women's basketball team now returns home to host Bemidji State on Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston on Jan. 6 at 4 p.m.

- This was the fourth time that Andrea Thomas has led the team in scoring this season after her 19 points against the Marauders.
- The team improved to 6-2 when Tori Wortz reaches double figures as she had 14 against the University of Mary.
- SCSU is now 9-7 all-time against the University of Mary.
