Men’s Basketball Falls To the University of Mary, 99-79

Bismarck, N.D. – Despite getting 36 points and 10 rebounds from redshirt sophomore Gage Davis, the St. Cloud State men's basketball team (17-11, 13-6 NSIC) fell on the road to the University of Mary (10-15, 8-11 NSIC) at the McDowell Activity Center on Friday night, Feb. 10, by a 99-79 score.
Davis' 36 points was his second time scoring 30 or more points this season and the fourth time in his career. His double-double was his 11th of the season and 21st of his career. In the contest, Davis was 12-for-26 from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 from the line. He also had three assists and a block. Junior Jon Averkamp scored a career-high 28 points. His previous high was 21 points against Minnesota Duluth earlier this season (1/17/17). He shot 11-for-19 from the field and also picked up five rebounds against the Marauders. Junior Andy Foley picked up seven points to go along with nine rebounds. Senior Scottie Stone, who came into the game ranking among the top four in the conference in scoring, was held scoreless in the game for only the third time in his career in 115 games. Trevon Marshall put up three points and four assists off the bench.
The University of Mary had six players reach double figures led by 25 points from Rickey Suggs and 22 points from Damonta Henry.
The Marauders shot lights out for most of the evening in shooting 60.9 percent from the field (39-for-64) for the game. UMary also knocked down 40.9 percent of the team's three-point attempts (9-for-22) and 80 percent from the free throw line (12-for-15). The Huskies shot 42.6 percent from the field (29-for-68) and 25 percent from three-point range (5-for-20). The program only missed one free throw in 17 attempts in the game (94.1 percent)
The game featured only three lead changes and all came in the first few minutes of the game. The Marauders were able to score 46 points in the first half and 53 points in the second.
The Huskies play their regular season road game of the season and take on Minot State on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.
