St. Cloud, Minn.- After landing in the #5 spot of the NSIC North standings, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team will head to Sioux Fall, S.D. to take on the #4 NSIC South team, the University of Sioux Falls Cougars.Â
The Huskies' ranking came down to the final weekend when they lost two hard matches against #12 Minnesota State Moorhead, and Northern State University to close out their regular season schedule. The Cougars enter the game after ending their season with a split, losing to Concordia-St. Paul and then defeating Minnesota State Mankato to solidify their home court in the opening round.
The Huskies (11-15, 9-13 NSIC) and the Cougars (19-7, 15-7 NSIC) have met previously this season, facing off once in early December. The Cougars handed the Huskies their first conference defeat in the match, beating the visitors 74-51. Despite the Huskies keeping pace with the Cougars for much of the game, but the Cougars would put on a defensive showing to solidify the win. Chelsea Nooker led the Huskies in the contest, putting up 13 points in the game. Betsy MacDonald would add 12 points of her own, and both seniors would dish out two assists. Brianna Johnson grabbed her season high of rebounds, nabbing 13 for the Huskies.Â
Tip-off is set to begin at 7 p.m. from the Stewart Center. Fans can watch the game here, or follow along with live stats here.Â
The winner of the game will advance to the Stanford Health Tournament Feb. 25-28 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The winner will play the victor in the game between Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State Moorhead at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.Â
