SCSU Men's Hockey to host CC in regular season finale

The #19 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (15-16-1, 9-12-1 NCHC) will return to action in the NCHC this weekend with a pair of dates at home against Colorado College (7-21-4, 3-15-4 NCHC). SCSU will open the weekend with a 7:37 p.m. (CT) game at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday, March 3 and then complete the weekend series on Saturday, March 4 with a 7:07 p.m. game.

IN THE POLLS: The Huskies were ranked #19 in the USCHO.com poll and received votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll this week. Denver was ranked #1 in the USA Today/USA Hockey and USCHO.com polls this week. As of March 2, SCSU was ranked 14th in the Pairwise rankings.

SENIOR SALUTE: SCSU seniors who are scheduled to be saluted this weekend during their final regular season home games at the HBNHC include defenseman Niklas Nevalainen, forward Ben Storm, forward Daniel Tedesco and defenseman Nate Widman. The SCSU senior class has helped SCSU win an NCHC regular season title and an NCHC Frozen Faceoff title along with three consecutive NCAA playoff bids. Over the past four seasons, the Huskies have charted an 88-45-8 record.
TOUGH ROAD TRIP: The Huskies will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid, which includes a 4-3 OT loss and a 7-2 loss at #1 Denver on Feb. 24-25. Since Jan. 13, the Huskies have played seven games against the nation's two top ranked teams #1 Denver and #2/3 Minnesota Duluth.Â

ON A ROLL: Sophomore Mikey Eyssimont, a LA Kings draft pick, owns a five-game point streak heading into the games vs. CC. Over this streak, Eyssimont has four goals and two assists for the Huskies. On the season, Eyssimont leads the Huskies with 14 goals and 29 points...Eyssimont has 4g/5a in six games played against CC during his career. Of note, Eyssimont also has 3g/4a in play against DU during his career making it 7g/9a scored against teams from his home state of Colorado as a Husky.
NEWELL NOTE: Patrick Newell scored his 20th assist of the season during the Huskies 4-3 OT loss at DU on Feb. 24. Newell, a sophomore from Thousand Oaks, Calif., has 35 career assists and 45 career points with the Huskies.
DID YOU KNOW?: SCSU has scored 24 power play goals this season, while allowing only 17 power play goals this season. The team record for fewest PPG goals allowed by the Huskies is 18 set in 2007-08.
MILESTONES: Judd Peterson, a Buffalo Sabres draftee, scored his 10th goal of the season on Feb. 24 at DU. This was also his 30th career goal at SCSU. Of note, the goal snapped a 14-game goal scoring drought for Peterson.
THE NOTEBOOK: Niklas Nevalainen has posted four assists for the Huskies over his last four games played. Nevalainen has 43 career assists and 48 career points in 133 games played during his career...Sophomore defender Jon Lizotte posted his second career goal during the Huskies game at DU on Feb. 24...SCSU has participated in six overtime games since Jan. 6. The Huskies are 1-5 in those extra session games. The loss at Denver on Feb. 24 snapped a five-game win streak for the Huskies on Friday nights.
PLAYOFF POSSIBILITIES: As of Feb. 28 at 9:10 p.m., the Huskies were ranked #14 in the Pairwise Rankings. The Huskies will be looking to gain home ice advantage in the upcoming NCHC by obtaining league points in the games against CC. SCSU currently sits in fifth place with 28 points, while North Dakota and Omaha are in fourth place with 29 points. The top four teams in the league standings receive home ice in the first round of the league playoffs. UND will finish the season with games at Miami and Omaha will host Denver...since joining the NCHC, SCSU has earned home ice twice and been on the road for the first round once. In first round playoff action, SCSU is 2-2-0 in play on home ice and 2-0-0 in play on road ice. SCSU has advance to the Frozen Faceoff in 2015 and 2016...and the Huskies won the NCHC Frozen Faceoff title in 2016.
CC NOTES: On Nov 11-12, the Huskies posted a 7-3 and 4-1 weekend sweep at Colorado College. The Huskies have gained four consecutive victories over the Tigers dating back to a 5-2 loss at the HBNHC against CC on Jan. 9, 2016...Since Dec. 14, 2012, the Huskies own a 13-2-1 record vs. Colorado College. In the all-time series that dates back to 1989, the Huskies own a 43-49-7 record against CC...SCSU assistant coach Mike Gibbons was an assistant coach at Colorado College from 1988 to 1990.
