Volleyball Chosen For 13th in NSIC Coaches’ Poll

Clara Krenz Named As Player to Watch
BURNSVILLE, Minn.  – St. Cloud State's volleyball team has been tabbed to finish 13th overall in the NSIC as voted on by the league coaches in the annual preseason poll, the league office announced on Thursday morning. Aug. 3. The Huskies also saw sophomore Clara Krenz tabbed as a 2017 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player to Watch for the upcoming season.
The Huskies picked up a total of 70 points to finish ahead of University of Mary (54), Bemidji State (46) and Minot State (15). Concordia-St. Paul, who received 10 first-place votes and 218 points, were picked to win the conference for the 14th straight season. The Bears are the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions.
Krenz ranked seventh in the NSIC in digs in her rookie year with 447. She played in 104 matches and ranked second on the team with her 25 service aces
The Huskies volleyball team will kick off their 2017 season action on Aug. 31 when they play Saint Katherine College in San Marcos, California at 5 p.m. The SCSU home opener is on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. against NSIC rival Bemidji State.
SCSU went 8-21 last season including a mark of 3-17 in NSIC play. The team fought hard and had four five-set losses last season in the second campaign under head coach Chad Braegelmann. This season the program returns senior Nicole Miller, who led the team and ranked third in the conference with 45 service aces in 2016. Â The team also brings back junior Micah Nier, who ranked third on the squad with her 155 kills and 185.5 points last season.
Located in Central Minnesota along the oak-crowned west bank of the Mississippi River in the city of St. Cloud, Minn., St. Cloud State University sponsors 19 varsity intercollegiate athletic programs.  The Huskies compete at the NCAA Division I level in men's hockey (National Collegiate Hockey Conference) and women's hockey (Western Collegiate Hockey Association), while its NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the University's nordic ski team competes in the Central Collegiate Ski Association.  To learn more about the academic opportunities available at St. Cloud State University, please visit stcloudstate.edu
