Men’s Basketball Earns 82-58 Victory Over Wayne State College

Wayne, Nebraska. – Junior Gage Davis totaled a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the St. Cloud State (14-6, 10-4 NSIC) to an 82-58 victory over Wayne State (11-12, 6-9 NSIC) on Friday, Jan. 26, at Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Nebraska.
Besides totaling game-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds, Davis also recorded a game-high of six assists. Junior Sean Smith picked up 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior Jon Averkamp totaled eight points, three rebounds, four assists and a steal. Sophomore Trevon Marshall had eight point points and four rebounds. Senior Andy Foley recorded nine points and four rebounds. Freshman Tristen Hull chipped in nine points off the bench.
Wayne State had a pair of players reach double figures with Brian Goodwin and Tony Bonner totaling 10 points.
The Huskies shot 55.4 percent from the field (31-for-56), 46.2 percent from three-point range (6-for-13) and 73.7 percent from the free throw line (14-for-19). The team also had 38 rebounds, 16 assists and seven steals. The Huskies held a 45-34 advantage in points in the paint and 9-4 in fast break points. Wayne State shot 41.4 percent from the field (24-for-58), 22.2 percent from three-point range (4-for-18) and 54.5 percent from the line (6-for-13).
The Huskies led 35-25 at the half and won the second half 47-33. The game featured three tied scores and five lead changes. SCSU's largest lead was 25 on a Smith layup to put the Huskies up, 72-47, with 5:37 remaining in the game. The team took the lead for good on a Davis layup with 10:36 remaining in the first half, 18-17.
St. Cloud State men's basketball team keeps the road trip going and travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on Augustana on Saturday, Jan. 27, for a 6 p.m. game.
