
SCSU Emerges Victorious in Overtime Thriller

ST. CLOUD, MINN. - In their regular season debut, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 NSIC) defeated the Valley City State Vikings (2-4, 0-0 NSAA) 68-56 at Halenbeck Hall on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018.
The Huskies led for over 40 minutes in Saturday's contest, but a late surge from the Vikings in the fourth quarter forced the fifth lead change of the game with less than two minutes to play. In those final two minutes, the Huskies trailed by three points two different times but received a crucial lay up from Mallie Doucette to keep the Huskies within one. Later trailing by three with :12 seconds on the clock, Doucette drained a three to tie things up at 53 all before the game eventually was sent to overtime.

In the overtime period, the Huskies held VCSU to three points and put up 14 to win their regular season home opener 68-56. Mallie Doucette's game-high of 27 points is also a career high for the red shirt senior guard. Nikki Kilbotten posted Madelin Dammann followed with 12 points and eight rebounds while Brehna Evans contributed eight points, six rebounds and two steals in her first official collegiate game. Mackenzie Uter started at point guard for the Huskies and tallied six assists while also recording a steal and two rebounds.
As a team, SCSU shot 38.8 percent (26-67) from the field, 24.1 percent (7-29) from three-point land and 60 percent (9-15) from the free throw line. St. Cloud State also only turned the ball over 12 times, compared to Valley City's 22. The Vikings shot 33 percent (19-57) from the field, 15 percent (3-20) from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent (15-22) from the free throw line.
St. Cloud State returns to action at the Central Washington Tournament in Ellensburg, WA on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. Friday's match-up is against Central Washington at 7:30 PM while Saturday's game is at 5 PM against Concordia University (OR).
