#2 St. Cloud State men's hockey rallies to gain 5-3 win at Colorado College

The #2 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-1-1, 1-0-0 NCHC) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to collect a 5-3 victory at Colorado College (4-2-1, 0-1-0 NCHC) in both team's conference opener on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with a goal by Tanner Ockey at 9:03 and a power play marker by Nick Halloran at 19:10. In the second period, SCSU turned the tide as it outshot the Tigers 18-1 and also broke the shutout at 11:18 of the period with a goal by Ryan Poehling. This was Poehling's second goal of the season and it was assisted by Nolan Walker and Jack Ahcan.
Patrick Newell tied the game at 8:51 of the third period at 2-2 with a power play goal that was assisted by Ahcan and Walker. This was Ahcan's team-leading 11th assist of the year and it was Walker's fifth assist of the season. The deadlock was shortlived as Cole McCaskill gave CC its final lead with his goal at 9:23 of the third at 3-2.
The Huskies then rattled off three unanswered goals to claim the win. Easton Brodzinski converted on the power play opportunity at 12:53 of the third with assists from Robby Jackson and Jimmy Schuldt. This was Brodzinski's third goal of the season.
Newell gained the night's game winner at 16:34 with a goal that was assisted by Kevin Fitzgerald and Schuldt. The goal was Newell's team leading sixth of the season. Newell and Ahcan have now scored points in every game of the season for the Huskies. To wrap up the scoring, Poehling posted his second goal of the night at 18:36 with an empty netter that had a solo assist from Jackson.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Tigers 41-15. The lopsided stat total saw SCSU outshoot CC 18-1 in the second and 17-6 in the third. David Hrenak was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 12 saves. His record on the season now improves to 4-0-0.
On the power play, SCSU was 2-3 and CC was 1-4 in the game.
