Another third period comeback lifted the #2 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (7-1-0, 2-0-0 NCHC) to a 2-1 victory at Colorado College (4-3-1, 0-2-0 NCHC) on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.  The win helped SCSU gain its third weekend sweep of the 2018-19 season and it also marked a strong start to the NCHC schedule for the defending champion Huskies.
Much like Friday night when they trailed 2-0 after the first period, SCSUÂ allowed Colorado College to gain the first lead of the game when the Tigers scored on the power play at 11:28 with a goal by Westin Michaud.
The goal followed a scoreless first period in which SCSU netminder David Hrenak made eight saves and CC goalie Alex LeClerc had eight saves. The Huskies remained scoreless until the final period when Jack Poehling broke the zero with an even strength goal at 7:38. He was assisted on the play by Nick Poehling and Jon Lizotte. This was Jack Poehling's second goal of the season and it was also the second assist of the year for both Nick Poehling and Lizotte.
The two squads staged a solid defensive battle that resulted in both teams posting a total of 30 shots apiece in the game. The game winner was finally decided on the power play at 17:50 of the third when Easton Brodzinski lit the lamp with his fourth goal of the year. Jimmy Schuldt and Ryan Poehling both had assists on the goal for the Huskies.
Hrenak posted his fifth win of the season with the victory and lowered his goals against average to 1.40 on the season (8th in the nation), while his 100% winning rate is tops in the nation among DI goalies.
SCSU was 1-of-3 on the power play and the Huskies were 6-of-7 on the penalty kill. The power play goal allowed by the Huskies was just their third of the season. SCSU ranks second among DI teams this season with a 91.9 percent penalty kill rate (34-of-37).
The Huskies will return home on Nov. 9-10 for a pair of home games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center against NCHC rival University of Denver. Great tickets are available for both games in this series and you can purchase them online at scsutickets.com or by calling 1-877-SCSUTIX.
