
SCSU swimming and diving teams earn top spots at Rochester Invitational

The St. Cloud State men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up an impressive weekend at the 2018 Rochester Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 2 in Rochester, Minn. The SCSU men's team won the team title with a total of 2097.5 points, while UW-LaCrosse placed second at 1519.5 in eight team field. The women's team placed second with 1799 points in the 12-team field at the Rochester Invite.
On the final day of competition, SCSU had several top performances at the Invitational. In the women's 100 freestyle, Chelsea Gehrke placed first with a time of 51.77, while Joel Huth placed second in the men's 100 free at 46.41 and teammate Brady Wolkow placed third at 47.21.
In the women's 200 backstroke, Annie Hart placed second at 2:03.93 and Anthony Schwartz placed first in the men's 200 backstroke at 1:50.79. In the men's 200 breaststroke, William Nguyen placed second at 2:08.68 and Connor Deitrich was third at 2:09.05.
Gehrke returned in the women's 100 butterfly to capture second place with a time of 57.01, and Robert Leigh was third in the men's 100 fly at 51.16. In the men's 1M diving, Scott Stellick placed first at 454.40 and Hanos Mahari was second at 416.15. In the women's 3M event, Britin Thomsen was first at 461.25 followed by teammate Alyssa Doherty in second place at 431.15 and Mady Brinkman in third at 405.55. Stellick's effort hit the NCAA qualifying standard in the 1M event, while Thomsen and Doherty both hit NCAA qualifying marks in the 3M event.
The SCSUÂ women's 400 free relay of Jennifer Thompson, Gehrke, Christina Ware and Alexis Burrroughs placed first with a top time of 3:28.45, and the men's 400 free relay of Brady Wolkow, Anthony Schwartz, Joel Huth and William Nguyen placed second at Rochester with a time of 3:05.13.
