Women's Basketball Edges Minnesota State, 68-67

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – After snapping a three-game losing streak on Friday night by defeating the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (14-7, 11-6 NSIC) defeated the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks (8-16, 6-12 NSIC) by a score of 68-67 on Saturday night at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies were outscored by the Mavericks 30-26 in the first half and did not hold a lead of more than four until mid-way through the fourth quarter. In a back and forth second half where the lead changed thirteen times, St. Cloud State prevailed after out-scoring the Mavericks 25-20 in the fourth quarter.
Tori Wortz' game-high of 19 points paced the Huskies' offensive efforts while Andrea Thomas, Madelin Dammann and Nikki Kilboten each scored in double figures. Madelin Dammann was one rebound away from recording a double-double to accompany her 11 points.
As a team, SCSU shot 54.0 percent from the field, 18.2 percent from three-point range and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line. The Huskies out-rebounded the Mavericks, 33-26 and recorded nine steals. St. Cloud State also recorded 12 points off of Mankato's 14 turnovers.
The Mavericks were led by Claire Ziegler's double-double performance of 13 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, MSU shot 47.2 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three-point range and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line.
St. Cloud State will travel to Duluth to take on the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Tuesday at 5 PM, then return to Halenbeck Hall to play the University of Mary at 6 PM on Friday and the Minot State Beavers on Saturday night at 4 PM. Saturday night will also be St. Cloud State's senior night.
