SCSU Ryynanen places second at 2018 NSIC Men's Golf Championships

SMITHVILLE, Mo. - St. Cloud State's Troy Ryynanen finished as the runner-up at the 2018 NSIC men's golf championships on Saturday, April 14 at the Paradise Point Golf Course in Smithville, Mo.
Ryynanen and Concordia-St. Paul's Noah Rasinski finished the 54-holes tied atop the leaderboard at 219. Each player shot rounds of 76-70-73 to force a playoff. Rasinski shot a four on hole one in the playoff while Ryynanen had to drop after his first shot and did not finish the hole. Ryynanen was SCSU's top finisher at the NSIC championships and was named to the NSIC All-Tournament team.
Minnesota State won its fourth straight NSIC Men's Golf Championship as the Mavericks shot rounds of 314-292-301 to finish at 907, three strokes ahead of Winona State (317-293-300=910). The championship was played at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri, over the past two days. The Huskies placed third in the team standings with a score of 915 (315-300-300). As a team, SCSU was tied with Winona State with a low team score of 300 in the final round of play on April 14.
SCSU's Riley Duncanson broke the top 20 in the tournament with a 15th place score of 229 (82-73-74), while teammate Regan Steen was 16th at 230 (75-77-78). David Scharenbroich was 30th on the leaderboard with a score of 237 (82-80-75) and Daniel Massey was 41st at 244 (83-83-74)
With the win, Minnesota State earned the NSIC's automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional, which will be played at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio hosted by the University of Findlay on May 7-9.
