St. Cloud State University Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications Tom Nelson has announced that Kelsey Whaley has joined the St. Cloud State University athletic department as the Huskies' Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.Â
Prior to joining the staff at St. Cloud State, Whaley served as the Sports Information Director at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. While at St. Kate's, Whaley oversaw multiple aspects of sports information, including statistics, game day management, social media, graphic design and website maintenance for Wildcat athletics. Under Whaley's guidance, St. Kate's social media pages doubled in following and interaction thanks to a graphic design overall during the 2017-18 school year. During her tenure, three teams made historic appearances in the NCAA and conference tournaments, for which Whaley was responsible for providing coverage.
Additionally, Whaley worked with the media and served as a liaison on multiple projects, including the 2017 NCAA Division III St. Paul Super Regional and 2018 NCAA Division III Basketball Semifinal and Final in Rochester, Minnesota. She also served on several committees, including the USBWA Division III Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week committee in 2017-18.Â
Prior to joining St. Kate's, Whaley held multiple positions in sports information and sports journalism. She formerly served as the Assistant Director for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and served as a student assistant during her time at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. Additionally, Whaley interned with SiriusXM Radio and covered the Green Bay Packers while living in Wisconsin.
She graduated from St. Norbert College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies. Whaley is a resident of St. Cloud, Minn.
