
The 2018-19 team captains: Jon Lizotte, Jimmy Schuldt and Jacob Benson
St. Cloud State men's hockey announces team captains for 2018-19

A solid trio of seniors has been selected as the team captains for the 2018-19 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team. This group includes team captain Jimmy Schuldt along with alternate captains Jon Lizotte and Jacob Benson.
"This is a very strong leadership corps led by three-time team captain Jimmy Schuldt," SCSU head coach Brett Larson said. "All three are very strong strong character guys who put the team first and lead by example."
Schuldt is back for his third season with the letter "C" on his sweater for the Huskies. A first team All-American and All-NCHC selection on defense in 2017-18, Schuldt scored 10 goals and led the Huskies with 28 assists. A Hobey Baker Award top 10 finalist in 2018, Schuldt has notched 28 goals and 55 assists during his three year tenure in the Granite City.
An NCHC Academic All-Conference selection and NCHC Scholar-Athlete throughout his college career, Schuldt was named to the All-NCHC Rookie Team in 2016 and the All-NCHC Honorable Mention team in 2017. Schuldt is a resident of Minnetonka and graduate of Minnetonka High School. He played junior hockey with Omaha of the USHL.
Lizotte is also back for his final season with the Huskies after serving as a team alternate captain in 2017-18. Lizotte scored five goals and 12 assists during his junior season on the blueline in 2017-18. In his career at SCSU, Lizotte has nine goals and 28 assists on defense. He is a three-time Academic All-NCHC selection during his time at SCSU. Lizotte gained NCHC Scholar-Athlete honors for the Huskies in 2018. He is a resident of Grand Forks, N.D. and a graduate of Red River H.S. Lizotte played junior hockey for Minot of the NAHL.
The trio is completed by Benson, who also hails from Grand Forks, N.D. A two-time Academic All-NCHC selection, Benson posted eight goals and nine assists for the Huskies in 2017-18. In his three years with the Huskies, Benson has scored 23 goals and 26 assists. A graduate of Red River H.S., Benson played junior hockey with Dubuque of the USHL.
The Huskies are coming off an impressive 2017-18 season, which saw SCSU earn its second NCHC regular season championship with a 16-4-4 NCHC record last winter. Overall, the Huskies charted a 25-9-6 record and received the nation's number seed heading into the 2018 NCAA Division I hockey tournament. SCSU has enjoyed an impressive numbers in recent years with NCHC regular season titles in 2014 and 2018, the NCHC tournament title in 2016 and NCAA tournament bids in 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1989.
