Coach Costanzo wins 200th career match at SCSU

#1 Huskies collect three more wins to improve to 14-0 in 2018-19
The #1 St.Cloud State University wrestling team (14-0, 2-0 NSIC) extended its dual match winning streak to 43 consecutive victories with three wins at the 2019 Ranger Duals in Kenosha, Wisc. on Jan. 12.
The day was highlighted by head coach Steve Costanzo winning his 200th career match at St. Cloud State University. The Huskies' opened the day with a 36-3 win over #5 ranked McKendree, which was Costanzo's 200th career win at SCSU. He currently owns a 202-28 record at SCSU since he joined the staff as head coach in 2006-07.
On the topic of Costanzo, the Huskies have only lost seven dual matches since 2010-11. SCSU has won seven NSIC titles under the leadership of Costanzo, and the Huskies have won three NCAA DII national titles in 2015, 2016 and 2018. SCSU has not lost an NSIC dual match since Jan. 27, 2011, and the Huskies currently own a 55 match win streak in NSIC dual match competition.
SCSU continued its day in Kenosha with a 25-9 win over host Wisconsin-Parkside. To complete the road trip to Wisconsin, St. Cloud State scored a 34-6 victory over #18 Indianapolis.
On the day, #3 ranked James Pleski scored three wins for the Huskies a 149-pounds and #7 ranked Jake Barzowski went 3-0 at 157-pounds for SCSU. At 197-pounds, #1 ranked Vince Dietz added three more wins and moved his season record to a perfect 19-0, while #3 Kolton Eischen posted a 3-0 record for the Huskies at 174-pounds.
In matches of note, #1 Brett Velasquez charted a 3-2 win over #5 Marcus Povlick of McKendree at 125-pounds, and Brandon Briggs posted a 6-4 win over #9 Charles McNeal of McKendree at 133. #3 James Pleski scored a 7-5 win over #12 Isaiah Kemper of McKendree at 149-pounds and a 5-3 win over #8 Kyle Barkovich of Indianapolis. At 157-pounds, Barzowski added a 6-3 decision over #10 ranked Nate Smalling of McKendree.
At 184-pounds, Chance Helmick capped a strong showing in Kenosha with a 14-6 major decision against #11 ranked James Lehman of UWP. At 197-pounds, Dietz posted a 6-3 win over #10 ranked Ryan Vasbinder of McKendree and a 2:36 pin against #12 ranked Brian Wagner of Indianapolis.
SCSU Wrestling Alumni Day has been set for Jan. 19, when the Huskies take on Mary. A pre-match breakfast will take place at the East Side VFW in St. Cloud and a post-match social will be held at Howie's Sports Bar and Grill in St. Cloud.
