#The #1 St. Cloud State men's hockey team (14-2-2, 6-0-2 NCHC) will return to action in the always rugged National Collegiate Hockey Conference with a pair of road dates at #5 Minnesota Duluth (11-5-2, 4-3-1 NCHC) on Jan. 11-12.  The games will be played at Amsoil Arena and both games are slated to begin at 7:07 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.  Please visit www.umdbulldogs.com for complete ticket information on this important league series. IN THE POLLS:  The Huskies received a #1 ranking in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey weekly poll.  In the USCHO.com poll this week, the Huskies earned a #1 ranking.  SCSU has been ranked #1 in the nation in the last six USA Hockey/USA Today DI polls, and the Huskies have earned the #1 spot in the USCHO.com poll four times this season.Â
 LAST TIME OUT:  The Huskies placed third at the Three Rivers Classic, which was hosted by Robert Morris in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Jan. 4-5.  SCSU opened its weekend out east with a tough 7-2 loss to #14 Union.  The Huskies' two goals in the contest, played at the UPMC Lemiuex Sports Complex, were netted by Kevin Fitzgerald.  This was the most goals allowed by the Huskies in a game since a 7-5 loss to Western Michigan on Jan. 12, 2018 in St. Cloud.  The five goal deficit was also the largest margin of defeat since a 7-2 loss at Denver on Feb. 25, 2017.  The loss snapped a 10-game unbeaten streak for the Huskies dating back to a 3-2 loss at Northeastern on Oct. 27...SCSU rebounded quickly on Jan. 5 with a 5-2 win over Robert Morris in a game played at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.  Robby Jackson scored two goals in the game, including the game winner in the third period.  SCSU's other goals were added by Patrick Newell, Kevin Fitzgerald and an ENG by Nick Poehling.  Jeff Smith made 20 saves in the contest for the Huskies...of note, SCSU outshot Union 38-25 and outshot RMU 35-22.
 CENTURY CLUB GROWS AT SCSU:  SCSU saw two new entries into its 100-Point Club on Jan. 5 vs. RMU.  Senior Jimmy Schuldt posted his 100th career point on Kevin Fitzgerald's goal at 17:39 of the second period and then senior Robby Jackson scored his 100th career point with a goal at 12:45 of the third period.  These two become the 31st and 32nd players in the team's DI history (all games played at the DI level) to join the 100-point club.  Since SCSU hockey started in 1930-31, a total of 45 players have scored 100-or-more career points.

Robby JacksonA FEW MORE 100-POINT FACTS:  Robby Jackson is the third California resident to join SCSU's 100-point club.  The other California products to hit 100-points were Mikey Eyssimont with 102 from 2015-18 and all-time SCSU point leader Ryan Lasch with 183 from 2006-10...Jimmy Schuldt is just the second SCSU defenseman to join the team's 100-point club (during the DI era).  He needs eight more points this year to move ahead of fellow blueliner Kelly Hultgren, who had 107 career points from 1991-95...SCSU senior Patrick Newell is also closing in the 100-point club with 94 career points (28g/66a)...with 33 career goals, Schuldt is SCSU's all-time leader for goals by a defenseman.
 WORLD JUNIOR SPOTLIGHT: Forward Ryan Poehling helped Team USA gain a second place finish at the 2019 IIHF World Juniors.  Poehling was voted the MVP in the tournament, makde the tourney All-Star Team and was voted the Best Forward in the tournament.  He had five goals and three assists in tournament play (3rd best).  Poehling competed for Team USA at the World Juniors in 2018, where Team USA won a Bronze Medal.  Poehling joined Mark Parrish (1996 & 1997) as the other Husky who has played in two World Junior tourneys for Team USA.  A total of 10 SCSU players have skated for Team USA at the IIHF World Juniors since 1991.
 FITZY FACTS:  In his last three games played, Kevin Fitzgerald has scored a total of four goals and five points, and he has six points in his last four games played.  In his last nine games for the Huskies, Fitzgerald has a total of eight goals.  On the season, Fitzgerald ranks second on the team now with 10 goals behind team leader Patrick Newell with 11.  Fitzgerald also has 15 points this season and 34 career points (15g/19a).  He is a resident of Oak Brook, Ill.
 NATIONAL LEADERS:  As of Jan. 9, SCSU's Patrick Newell ranks 11th in the nation with .61 goals per game and Ryan Poehling ranks 11th in the nation with .88 assists per game this season...Newell also ranks third in the nation with 4 GWGs this year...Jimmy Schuldt ranks 10th in the nation among blueliners with .94 points per game...Nolan Walker ranks 5th among DI rookies at 1.00 points per game...Jeff Smith ranks 7th in the nation with a GAA of 1.89, while David Hrenak ranks second in the nation with a winning percentage of .875 (10-1-1)...SCSU ranks 2nd in the nation on offense at 4.06 goals per game and eighth on defense at 2.11 goals allowed per game...SCSU's power play is sixth in the country at 26.1% and the Huskies' penalty kill ranks fourth in the nation at 88.9%...SCSU's winning percentage of 83.3% is first in the nation.
TEAM NOTES: Will Hammer and Mika Ilvonen both saw ice time for the first time this season during the Huskies' recent road trip to the Three Rivers Classsic...David Hrenak suffered his first loss of the season in goal on Jan. 4 vs. Union.  Hrenak is now 10-1-1 on the season for SCSU...Jack Ahcan leads SCSU this winter with a +15 on the plus/minus...Jimmy Schuldt paces SCSU with 33 blocks followed by linemate Jon Lizotte with 27 blocks and Jack Ahcan with 26.
 OPPONENT NOTES: In play against UMD, the Huskies own a 67-50-9 series lead dating back to 1946-47.  SCSU is 64-46-8 during the Division I era of the season.  In the last five games of this series, SCSU owns a 3-2-0 edge and a 5-5-0 lead in the last 10 games of the series...last year at Amsoil, SCSU lost 5-1 and won 2-1 on Jan. 26-27, 2018.  Last year at SCSU, the Huskies swept the defending national champion Bulldogs 5-3 and 5-0 on Nov. 3-4, 2017...SCSU and UMD will complete the regular season back in St. Cloud with games at the HBNHC on March 8-9...SCSU head coach Brett Larson is a former assistant coach at UMD and also played collegiate hockey for the Bulldogs...Scott Perunovich leads UMD this year with 18 points (2g/16a) and Justin Richards has 16 points (5g/11a).  Hunter Shepherd is tops in goal with a 1.85 GAA and an 11-5-2 record...on Jan. 5, UMD lost a 4-2 match against the US NTDP U18 team...SCSU is 9-6-2 in games played in the Amsoil Arena...this marks the first meeting for Coach Larson against UMD.
