The Herb Brooks National Hockey Center will be a busy place this weekend as the Huskies will host Minnesota State University in women's hockey action and Northeastern University in men's hockey play on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Along with some great college hockey action, the weekend will include several special events highlighted by the unveiling of a new statue to honor former SCSU men's hockey coach Herb Brooks.
The dedication of the statue will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 near the main entrance to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The public is invited to attend this event, which is scheduled to take place between the SCSU women's hockey game that day against Minnesota State University (2:07 p.m. start) and the men's hockey game that night against #11 ranked Northeastern (6:07 p.m. start).
The trophy is a special tribute to the late Herb Brooks, who coached at SCSU during the 1986-87 season and played a key role in helping move the program to the NCAA I level in 1987-88 and the initial construction of the hockey facility at SCSU. The statue is being installed thanks to generous support from Dave Brooks, the brother of Herb Brooks.
The statue will stand nearly 14-feet tall near the entrance to the HBNHC and it is being crafted by Brodin Studios, a company based out of nearby Kimball, Minn. that specializes in the creation of bronze sculptures and statues.
BANNER UNVEILING
Prior to the start of the #14 SCSU men's hockey game on Friday, Oct. 25 against Northeastern, the Huskies' 2018-19 NCHC regular season championship banner is scheduled to be unveiled. Fans should arrive early to be part of this pre-game ceremony, which will recognize the achievements of the 2018-19 Huskies. SCSU won the 2018-19 regular season NCHC championship with a 30-6-3, 19-2-3 NCHC record. The 19 league victories set a new NCHC record for most conference wins in a single season.
SKATE WITH THE HUSKIES
The always popular Skate with the Huskies event will take place after the finish of the upcoming St. Cloud State men's hockey game versus Northeastern University on Saturday, Oct. 26. Fans will have a chance to hit the ice at the HBNHC along with members of the SCSU men's and women's hockey teams that night and the event is free and open to the public. Skate with the Huskies begins immediately after the conclusion of the SCSU men's game that night and fans are encouraged to bring their skates to the game that night (or get a pair from the HBNHC pro shop). This is a great chance to meet your favorite SCSU players, skate a few laps, take photos and get autographs.
