#6/8 St. Cloud State men's hockey opens season with 4-2 victory over Alberta

The #6/8 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (0-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) opened its 2019-20 season with a 4-2 victory over the University of Alberta in exhibition game play on Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies outshot the Golden Bears 40-19 in the contest and battled back for a 2-1 deficit in the second period to earn the victory on home ice.
SCSU opened the night at 13:55 of the first period with a power play marker by captain Jack Ahcan. His unassisted goal was one of four power play tallies by the Huskies in the game.
Alberta fired back at 19:25 of the first period with a goal by Lucas Nickles and then took a 2-1 lead at 3:54 of the second period with a goal by Tyler Soy.
The Huskies rallied to tie the game at 2-2 with a power play marker by Easton Brodzinski at 15:14, which included assists from Ahcan and Spencer Meier. Brodzinski then charted the game winning goal at 19:59 of the second period. His power play effort was assisted by Sam Hentges and Ahcan.
SCSU ended the scoring in the third period with a power play rocket from Jami Krannila, which found the back of the net thanks to assists from Zach Okabe and Nick Perbix.
In the game, SCSU was an impressive 4-of-9 on the power play and the Huskies were also 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.
In the nets, rookie goalie Joey Lamoreaux started the game for SCSU and gained the victory with two goals allowed in the contest. He made 14 saves in the game, which also saw teammate Jaxon Castor play in 18:15 minutes. Castor had three saves during his time on the ice.
The Huskies will return to action on Oct. 11-12 with a pair of road matches at Bemidji State University. Fans can listen to these two non-conference games on The RIver 96.7 FM with Jim Erickson and Dave Reichel on the call from the Northwoods.
