SCSU faces NCAA Division I opponents at South Dakota Quad Duals

The St. Cloud State men's and women's swim and dive teams opened the first day of competition at the South Dakota Quad Duals on Friday, Nov. 1. The Quad Duals feature NCAA Division I opponents South Dakota, South Dakota State and Northern Iowa, and they are being held at the Midco Aquatic Complex in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
In the men's competition, SCSU was defeated by USD 156-84 and the Huskies also lost a close 124.00-116.00 decision against South Dakota State. In the women's team events, SCSU lost 136.00-106.00 against host USD. The Huskies also lost a 144.00-98.00 match against SDSU and lost 155.00-87.00 against Northern Iowa.
In the 3M diving event, Madison Brinkman won first place honors for SCSU with a score of 233.50, while teammate Alyssa Doherty placed second at 227.75. Rebekah Stone placed fourth in the event at 224.60.
In the women's 1M diving event, Stone placed fourth at 230.25 to lead SCSU.
SCSU's women's 400 medley relay placed fourth with a time of 4:01.66 and the men's 400 medley relay team placed second at 3:30.40.
SCSU took the top two spots in the men's 1000 freestyle as Gavin Bloch placed first at 10:00.82 and David Clossey was second at 10:03.69.
In the women's 200 free, Chelsea Gehrke placed third at 1:55.29, and Matheus Laperriere was first int the men's 200 free at 1:42.72.
Abe Townley tallied a second place finish in the men's 50 free on Nov. 1 with a time of 21.24, and teammare Andres Hernandez placed second int he men's 400 IM with a time of 4:16.10.
In the women's 100 fly, Kasey Milstroh placed second with a time of 58.25, and Samuel Artz was fourth in the men's 100 fly at 52.22. Gehrke also added a fourth place time of 53.68 in the women's 100 free to pace SCSU in that event. In the men's 100 free, Joel Huth placed third with a time of 47.16.
SCSU's top time in the 100 backstroke was posted by Marena Kouba, who placed fifth with a time of 58.93. On the men's side of the event, Kevin Guenter placed third at 53.73. Laperriere returned with a second place finish in the men's 500 free at 4:48.84. In the men's 100 breaststroke, Jayden Porter posted a second place time of 59.12 for SCSU.
The Huskies' 200 women's free relay team of Gehrke, Milstroh, Alaina Friske and Rosalind Pang placed second with a time of 1:38.42 in Sioux Falls. In the men's 200 free relay, SCSU placed second with a time of 1:25.11. The foursome consisted of Townley, Artz, Laperriere and Huth.
The final rounds of the Quad Duals will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Nov. 2 at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
