St. Cloud State brings home wins over DI rival Western Illinois

The St. Cloud State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their weekend of competition at the South Dakota Quad Duals in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Nov. 2 with a pair of victories over NCAA Division I rival Western Illinois University. The SCSU men's team charted a 168.00-46.00 win over WIU and the women's team rolled to a 189.00-28.00 win over WIU.
In other dual meet action on Nov. 2 at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, the SCSU men's team lost a 163.00-78.00 match against DI rival South Dakota and also posted a 144.00-96.00 loss to DI opponent South Dakota State. The SCSU women's team lost 142.00-100.00 to DI foe South Dakota and also lost 161.00-80.00 to Northern Iowa and 136.00-105.00 to South Dakota State (both NCAA DI rivals).
In the 1M diving competition, SCSU's Madison Brinkman placed third with a score of 228.60 and teammate Alyssa Doherty placed fourth at 228.00. Doherty also led SCSU in the women's 3M diving with a second place finish of 248.05.
The SCSU women's 200 medley relay team of Marena Kouba, Alexis Burroughs, Kasey Milstroh and Chelsea Gehrke placed third at 1:47.56, and the SCSU men's relay team of Kevin Guenter, Jayden Porter, Kyle Weis and Abe Townley placed second at 1:35.89.
The Huskies brough home a 1st and 2nd place in the men's 1650 free as Gavin Bloch won the race with a time of 16:46.20 and David Clossey was second at 16:46.20. In the women's 200 free, Milstroh placed third for SCSU with a time of 1:54.42 and Gehrke was SCSU's top placer in the 50 free at 24.09. In the men's 50 free, Townley gained first place with a top time of 20.70.
In the women's 100 IM, Burroughs placed third for SCSU with a time of 1:00.30, and Matheus Laperriere led SCSU's men in the event with a second place time of 53.99. In the men's 200 fly, Garrett Alleven placed fourth with a top team time of 1:58.16 for the Huskies.
Milstroh led the Huskies in the 100 free with a fourth place time of 53.49, and Laperriere placed second in the men's 100 free at 46.65. SCSU's Andrea Hernandez placed third in the 200 back at 1:56.81 and Guenter placed fourth in the same event at 1:56.88.
Porter added another top place for the Huskies int he 200 breaststroke with a fourth place time of 2:12.81. In the 400 free relay, SCSU's women's team of Gehrke, Alaina Friske, Rosalind Pang and Christina Ware placed fourth with a time of 3:38.32 and the men's 400 free relay team of Townley, Kyle Weis, Joel Huth and Laperriere placed second with a time of 3:08.96.
