NSIC Release
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – In case you didn't know, St. Cloud State University senior Clara Krenz (Oakdale, Minn. / North St. Paul) is really good at volleyball.
Really really good.
For the third time this season, the senior was recognized by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) for her outstanding defensive play, as she was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week early Monday afternoon.
Krenz was outstanding last week, as she led the No. 11 Huskies to two wins over No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State. In two matches and seven sets, the senior racked up 46 digs, including a 26 dig performance against the Bulldogs, and averaged an NSIC leading 6.57 digs per set. She additionally became the first player in program history to eclipse the 2000 career digs milestone and now has 2052 to her name in her time at St. Cloud State.
It wasn't just this past weekend where Krenz has impressed. All season long, she's been one of the top liberos, not only in the NSIC, but in the nation as well. After the weekend, Krenz leads the NSIC in total digs (490) and digs/set average (6.05) and leads in both categories in conference play as well. Prior to the matches against Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State, Krenz was top-10 in the nation in both categories as well, coming in at eighth in digs/set and ninth in total digs.
Krenz and the Huskies will return to action on Tuesday, November 5 when they host Minnesota-Crookston at 6 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
