The spotlight in the game against Minnesota State was directed at SCSU rookie forward Zach Okabe, who scored four goals in the contest, including the first three goals of the game to set the tempo early for the Huskies.
Okabe opened the day's scoring at 5:22 of the first period with a goal to make it 1-0. Assists on the play were added by linemates Jami Krannila and Chase Brand. This was Okabe's first collegiate point and first collegiate goal.

In the third period, MSU's Jack McNeely scored at 7:52 to narrow the gap to 6-2, but an unassisted goal by SCSU's Micah Miller at 10:38 of the third made the final tally 7-2.
This was the first time SCSU had seven goals in a game since posting an 8-2 win at Western Michigan on Mar. 2, 2019.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Mavericks 25-18. SCSU was 0-of-3 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill in the game. SCSU has not allowed a power play goal in a game since Nov. 23 at North Dakota.
